I have a chance to purchase a Yamaha KX8 - 88 key keyboard with MIDI controller for $400. It appears to be in good condition and has excellent sound; however it is about two years old (according to the seller). I am not familiar with this particular keyboard and was not sure if this is a good price and how well they hold up.

Yamaha is certainly a reputable brand. I still have my digital piano (a Clavinova). It's still in near mint condition after 10 years. I can't say much for the keyboard itself, but I know I'd recommend Yamaha any day.

Two years is nothing for a keyboard. Pianos seem to have more of an investment feel - something that you purchase because you can see yourself playing it 10 years from now - than guitars do in my opinion.

To quote a great man, "If it sounds good, it is good."

Yes, my sister gave my son her Yamaha keyboard when it was 5 years old about 5 years ago and it is still going strong and looks land sounds like new. I am not sure of price, but Yamaha all the way.

I don't know the brand new price on that particular model but Yamaha has a great reputation for durability and quality keyboards so I wouldn't worry on that score. If it's a significant savings on the retail then I would see go for it.

I've got an old Novation that I still play. It's still going strong but I would have rather had a Yamaha hands down. That's still my dream keyboard even after playing the Novation all of these years!
