Hey,

These guitars (Gibson SG Classic and Gibson SG Special) are the same price, but which guitar do you prefer? (I tried them both out, hard to say which one is better).

Thanks

The Classic has P-90 pickups which I love! I think the Classic has something like 490's. I know they are both mahogany bodies but the Classic may have a rosewood fingerboard. It's mostly gonna come down to the pick-ups as far as I'm concerned. If you're thinking about purchasing I would really spend some time playing them through the same amp and listen the difference between the Classic's P90's and the Specials humbuckers. The only other big difference may be the play-ability...I've heard, but never experienced, that the Classic has a much more playable neck than the Special...but I'm not sure. The more time you spend with them - I'm sure you'll find some differences!

Alex is right, the Special runs humbuckers and has the old rounded style neck. Lot's of players like this type of neck better but if you are used to a standard neck, chances are you won't like it. They both have Mahogany bodies and Rosewood fingerboards. The Classic runs the P90's which is the traditional pickup for an SG and in my opinion a more versatile pick up. But if you like a lot of high gain distortion, you may like the special more. It will sound more like a Les Paul than an SG. As Alex said, spend a good deal of time with both of them. Trust your ear. Good luck.

I've preferred the Special myself. I had one for a very long time, and it was the only guitar I ever really needed, being a keyboard/bass player myself. But I loved it. Until it was stolen. Now I just wish I could love it. *sigh hahah
