I can think back and growing up with a family that had me listen to "Oldies" even though that were both parents preferred genre, we really ended up listening to a mix of everything.
Is there anyone that really stands out for any of you here now?

When you say oldies, which era are you referring to? Now it seems that music from the 80s is considered oldies (and that makes me an oldie...lol). I like music from just about any era and genre except the real heavy metal/grunge/punk/rap stuff.

As for Oldies musicians/ writers, Tom Waits is tops for my money.
He always comes up with something new and interesting. Santana is great to listen to, as is Eric Clapton.
As for the new musicians, I have been checking out Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes, Dungen and Regina Spektor. Great stuff.

I can't say that any one person sticks out. I grew up listening to mostly country music. I still listen to a lot of country but my favorite music is played by the Eagles, Steve Miller, Chicago and Journey.
I am glad my children are growing up loving a wide variety of music as well.

Is there anyone that really stands out for any of you here now? Beatles would be one. And Wolfgang too.

loveofmusic, Journey is still touring. I would highly recommend going to see them whenever you get the chance if you haven't yet. Steve Perry no longer sings for them, but their new vocalist is pretty top notch himself. They actually found him on Youtube. Go figure! Oh yes! How could I forget! The Journey! Boy, you're right about them. Steve Perry is not singing for them anymore but they've been blessed with another vocalist which is really good. Its a Filipino actually. And they're still touring the world for concerts. Wow. Philippines really has many great singers.
