I'm looking for a program for my computer that acts as a drum machine. Any recommendations? I don't need a zillion options, just the ability to change time signatures and add/remove drums. The ability to add Latin and Bata percussion (as well as other styles) would be a serious plus, but not required. (Guero, Triangle, Clave, Cajon, etc.)

Money really isn't an object on this one. I'm trying to keep it under $100, but I want it to sound at least something like a real drummer (read: probably not midi).

Recommendations anyone?

Hey Shack, have you looked at orDrumbox? You can find details here: http://www.ordrumbox.com/ - I believe it's free open source. Not sure of the functionality, but I've actually heard from a couple guys at work that they use it to lay down simple rhythm tracks when recording. Sounds like it has loop capability and uses a familiar pattern/tracks arrangement for setting up your grooves..

And I take it this works only on PC's? Any chance you know of some that might work on a computer running Linux, or even (not me) someone that might need it for a Mac?

1) That program is awesome. Just what I needed! Thanks Chris. Now back to the Latin grooves...

This program is not only free but works with Macs and Linux users. It even has a video tutorial that shows you how to write your own basic pattern.

I actually wound up using PC Drummer and paying the $5 to register the full version. OrDrumbox doesn't really compare. It was well worth the extra $5 over a free program.

I had no idea something like that would be worth it for a drummer too. Awesome!

And an awesome screen name too, buddy. =)
