Has any band used celestial cymbals? Celestial cymbals are tiny cymbals made of brass. Hindus use them to strike pleasing notes while singing devotional songs. I wonder if these can be successfully incorporated into a commercial band.

Percussionists will use anything, if it produces the sound they are looking for. I remember when crotales were popular in the 80's, but haven't seen much use of them lately.

If it's humanly possible, someone is doing it somewhere. I guarantee it. There is no limit to what can be done. If you think something is weird, there's someone out there who makes it a staple in their work.

Ever wondered if white noise could be musical? Listen to Merzbow's "Rock Dream" album (it spans three CDs).

My point is, if you like the sound of it, don't question it, drumstick. There are dozens of famous bands who have used those cymbals (Yes, Symphony X, Talas, Dimmu Borgir, Dredg, Nightwish, Isis, Korpiklaani, GWAR, etc.).

"If it sounds good, then it IS good."

You just earn a great deal of respect from me with that post. Anyone who can include the bands Yes and GWAR in the same post, and make sense, borders on genius. laugh

Respect is not something one finds often on the internet. I'm honored, YYZ.

Oh, and you really should check out Merzbow. Even if you don't like it...just give it a little listen.

I love the tone of celestial cymbals and while I have personally never thought of using them, not that the thought has been put in my head I just might have to try it out.
