I just Googled this term, and I was quite overwhelmed with the large number of free music software on the Internet. Now, which of these can I safely download without having my computer crash on me? I hope to get some good advise from people who have successfully downloaded and used music mixer software from the Internet.

I've downloaded free demo versions of Jupiter 8V and Analog Factory from Arturia, and I find they're very playable and haven't caused any problem, although they do use a lot of CPU power.

They are limited when compared to the full versions. I also use the Addictive Drums demo to enhance my drum parts.

I feel quite confident downloading these demo versions from the manufacturers.

In most cases if you are downloading directly from the manufacturer you are safe. However, always make sure you have good virus protection. There are always Trojans out there just waiting for a chance to jump on board.

Oh definitely always make sure you are downloading from the licensed/manufacturer site. Those sites which offer mass collections of software downloads are almost always bad news.
