I have an old Suzuki (and you thought they just made bikes right?) but we also have two electrics in the house (both Jacksons). I was wondering for anyone that could help on this one, would this old Suzuki be okay to teach a child with? I know myself and spouse never started on electrics but I figured keep it traditional and even though its an oldie its still a good too.

Hey Candit. I think we only have one review of a Suzuki acoustic guitar here. It can be found on the Suzuki Acoustic Guitars review page here:

Anyone else out there own a Suzuki? Please consider submitting your reviews so we can provide more selection!

I have owned a Suzuki 150-W since college (1979). This was the guitar that I learned to play on. I also taught my daughter to play on it. Because the chords are easy to form without a lot of pressure it made it easier for her to play them properly.

That's a really good point jillian. "Action" or the height of the strings from the fretboard is one of those things that can turn you off to playing altogether. I remember when I was young I was trying to play an old Fender my Uncle owned. It was old, with a slightly warped neck and the strings were nearly impossible to keep down for my little fingers. I pretty much handed the guitar back to him and said no thanks. Then, he brought out his Taylor - an amazing acoustic instrument - and I was hooked. For what it's worth.

This thing is so dusty and old I really have no idea anything more than "Suzuki" and to give the age away a little, its my husbands. I started out as a teen on the cello and then a friends old Fender (doesn't everyone have at least one of those?). Our girl will be three this year but she has taken a sweet liking to the Suzuki so I am thinking another musician in the family. And thanks for the heads up on the review, its hard to find them online since I am not sure which model I have.

Any guitar shops in the area should probably be able to give you some insight as to what model or year it might be if it's important to you. Also, it could be worth it to take it to a luthier and get it fixed up if it's all dusty before your daughter starts playing on it. Have fun and good luck from me to you! I'm always happy to see parents passing music onto their children.

I think that is what I am going to have to do, the only part I can barely make out is SSG but the #'s past that are the part that is wore off. Still makes me wonder how only part of something in the inside (that no one should be touching) is wore down.

A friend had a Suzuki F-120. She told me that it lay forgotten in the garage for nearly 15-20 years. When it was finally found, it was as good as gold. The guitar still played smoothly and looked brand new. I am not sure whether it is a good guitar for kids, but I don't see why such as high-quality guitar such as a Suzuki shouldn't be used to teach kids.

Hi Jillian I think you will find it's a Kiso Suzuki. You could try their Blog http://kisosuzuki.blogspot.com/
Best of luck Rob
