Every musician I've ever run into has dressed like the music they play. Does that make sense? The heavy metal bassist wears chains and has spiked black hair. The acoustic folkist dresses like a 1970s hipster.
Do you dress like the music you play?

Do they dress like the music, or do they play like they dress? Every musician's music is an expression of who they are inside. You can tell a lot about a person by the clothes they wear AND the music they play.

I think YYZ has it right, here, Chitz. It's not that one necessarily affects the other, but rather that each piece is an elaboration on a complex whole. That is to say, style of dress, musical taste, idiosyncrasies of dialect, are all borne out of the same whole. I don't mean to say it's nature or nurture, but these are all just forms of expression.
And as always, there are exceptions.
I've been known to play a jazz show in a Hanoi Rocks t-shirt. Anybody remember that band, now? Some people wear suits and then go out and dress up like GWAR for shows.
(Btw, fun fact, GWAR, by day, is a five piece jazz combo. They just play under a different name. Awesome, huh?)

Yea, you're right. I agree that it's about what you feel and it's an expression of yourself. Just as your music is an expression of yourself.
Shack, didn't know that about GWAR. That's pretty wild considering... I would never have guessed it.

I love me some GWAR. It is amazing where you can stumble upon some real musicians just having fun.
When playing live, there is a visual element to every performance. So, dressing the part can be quite important.

Nope, I dress just like an everyday normal person. I like all types of music though, so I would have to dress different for whatever I was in the mood to play.

Rocker14, I went to a bar the other night where this guy was playing the guitar. He was dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, so nothing fancy. He played everything from Buffett to GNR to Black Eyed Peas to Garth Brooks. Quite the combo. He couldn't exactly dress like his music since it was all over the circuit.

Do you dress like the music you play? i really cant give comment basing on myself since never done that before..but in my observation , some musicians dress up according to its preferences..just like Madonna, she like sexy outfit when in concert, i guess one of factors that make you click on the crowd was the way you dress up its like a package thing deal of i think..well correct me if i am wrong with this one ....
