Hey Everyone,
I'm looking to buy a lovely new classical guitar as a present for my boyfriend but have no idea where to start. He's been playing since he was a kid and already owns an Alvarez (model no M-125M), which he's also had for years.
Of course I'd like to get him something better and have about £500 or £600 to spend. Just have no clue about makes, models or which ones are best.
I play and have bought acoustic guitars in the past but I'm lost when it comes to classical. Please Help! Thanks

Lise, may I suggest, perhaps, that you buy him a gift certificate to put toward a classical guitar? If he's been playing for some time, then he will likely want to try the guitar out before he makes a purchase. I know gift cards aren't seen as being quite as thoughtful, generally speaking, but I think that when it comes to personal choices like musical instruments giving a gift card shows that you want to make sure it's exactly what he wants. And you could absolutely go pick it out with him, of course. =)

That's what I'd prefer, personally.

Peace,
James

You know, another potential option Lise, would be to take him on a surprise visit to a local music shop that you know carries a good selection of classical guitars. Instead of just giving him a gift certificate, arrange with the shop owner before hand a predetermined limit, or if he happens to pick up and play something he really likes that is within your budget, just surprise him with it right there. And, maybe throw in dinner as well to make the night complete.
