If you're a fan of intellectual metal with a twist, I highly recommend Coheed & Cambria and their bassist, Mic Todd. My 20-year-old son turned me on to this New York band, and they offer unique, heavy rock/metal that's quirky but addictive. The band's albums have a continuing storyline based on a science fiction work, The Armory Wars, by lead singer Claudio Sanchez, who has an instantly recognizable voice. In fact, the band is named after two of the story's protagonists. I've never heard music like this. Todd comes up with active, melodic yet solid bass lines for the very tightly arranged songs. A new album is due out in April 2010. Check 'em out if you're in the mood for something different.

I second that! As a longtime fan of C&C, they're worth a listen.

Mic has a very unorthodox playing style, too. he slaps whacks and plucks, as needed, but his slapping is not as your usual thumb slap. Worth checking out some Youtube videos.

over excited .... But I refer to myself as the
"Bass Klutz". Gorsch-a-willakerdz, looks like
I coulda been famous ! Que sera, non ?
