Although I play bass, I have very few solo CDs by bassists -- at least none that feature the bass as a solo instrument in the vein of Jaco, Marcus Miller or Stanley Clarke. I do have a few Tony Levin Cds, but I prefer TLs idea of "featuring" the bass -- he focuses much more on ensemble playing. Although I can appreciate their talent and chops, I've never been fond of speed demon bassists or slapping/popping funksters. What sre your thoughts?

Whatever happened to Gary Willis? I used to have a bunch of Tribal Tech cds with him and guitarist Scott Henderson and there was some jaw-dropping fusion stuff on those with some monster bass playing. And doesn't Stuart Hamm put out solo cds? I was never a big fan of the guys that "show off" how fast they could play (Billy Sheehan cough, cough).

Gary had a couple of CDs out in 2007 -- don't think he has had anything recently.
