Martin Review: HD28VR

Martin Acoustic Guitars

History:

Purchase: I always wanted a Martin. I read that the HD28 was THE standard. Elderly for $2000

What I Like About This Martin HD28VR: The tone is magnificent. Clear as a bell and powerful. Martin dreadnoughts only sing when strung with medium gauge strings and this guitar is no exception. Use medium Daddarios or Martins and it will cut through any blusgrass band. The workmanship was great. The grain on the top is tight. The color of the top is perfect. I had to have the neck reset after a few years, though. Be sure to register the guitar. It's easy now.

What I Do NOT Like About The Martin HD28VR: I had to have the neck reset after a few years, though. Be sure to register the guitar. It's easy now.

Martin HD28VR Quality Rating: Martin dreadnoughts only sing when strung with medium gauge strings and this guitar is no exception. Use medium Daddarios or Martins and it will cut through any blusgrass band. The workmanship was great. The grain on the top is tight. The color of the top is perfect. Review Summary: Please buy this guitar if you want a Martin. This one's prettier than the standard D 28. It's made just a bit better.

Martin HD-28 - I started out looking at Martin DX-1's and didn't like the looks or the tone. I then tried a solid wood Martin (J-16GT) and liked the tone and looks, but didn't like the workmanship (glue drops on the inside of the soundbox-the sign of a novice). Wit...

Martin D-35 - The only work I've done to my Martin was to hand sand the top braces to a scallop for more tone and power. To accomplish this I used my 1940 Martin 0018's braces as a sort of pattern. ...

Martin HD28 - This is really a nice instrument. Martin has a great reputation for putting out quality instruments. They are pricey, but there's something about the Martin tone that makes this guitar a good value!...

Martin D35 - Nice guitar but I think Martin is cranking out instruments in too large a quantity for quality workmanship. Maybe that is not true with the higher priced units. A neck reset on a vitually new guitar shouldn't happen. I just purchased a lower end B...

Martin D-16GT - I would suggest what I did not do, that is go to a reputable independent Martin dealer and try all the models that you can, to make sure you get the model right for you....
