History: I've been playing guitar for about 15 years, I played in a touring Rock band for 4 years (we played the U.S., Canada, Europe and Japan). We recorded 2 nationally released CD's before calling it a day. Now I write and record on my own, I'm hoping to get another band together son.
Purchase: I bought this Amp in 2001, at that time it was no longer being manufactured but I found a dealer that still had 2 brand new units ($1300). At the time I already had a Duar Rectifier head but it wasn't the rack mount version, so I knew what to expect from the amp as far as tone but figured the rackmount would be more convenient for touring.
Pros: This amp has the best rock/metal tone around as far as I'm concerned, there's a reason why this is one of the most popular guitar amps for touring guitarists. The rack mount option is also very conveinient but the tone is the most important aspect of this amp.
Cons: There really isn't a clean channel on this amp, you're pretty much limited to turning the gain down. This doesn't bother me since I very rarely use a clean channel but it is a limitation.
Dual Rectifier Solo Head Rack Mount Quality: Mesa is one of the best manufacturers as far as construction, no worries about this amp. Mesa Boogie Summary: If you play rock or metal you really owe it to yourself to check this amp out.
