Epiphone Refurb DOT Review

History: I've been playing since dirt. Well, let's just say almost 30 years. I have a great guitar collection and can usually find unique pieces over the years at great prices. I play country, jazz, blues and rock.

Purchase: I was looking for another toy for my collection and ran across the ad on Musician's Friend for refurbished Epiphone DOTs. I actually own a first quality one, but wanted a different one, perhaps in another color.

Pros: What do I like? Classic sound, smooth neck, nice finish. What is there not to like? This guitar is all about tone. Even though it's an EPI and not produced domestically, it's one of the finest you can get your paws on.

Cons: You know, I don't know if it's a Gibson / Epiphone issue, but I always have problems keeping the G string in time on these guitars. Especially prevalent with the Epi les pauls, but I'm having a similar problem with this refurb DOT. Who knows, maybe it's me..

Refurb DOT Quality: Other than a slight scratch on the headstock and a slight blemish in the paint, this guitar is very well crafted and produced. You really have to look closely to find the problems so you can't beat the deal any way you look at it.

Epiphone Summary: Overall, I can't complain. I got a quality guitar with a few cosmetic issues for several hundred dollars off the retail price. Musician's Friend treated the transaction just as if I had purchased a new guitar and the service was great. I'm a believer.
