History: Guitar, mostly blues and classic rock.
Purchase: Paid $179 (blem unit) on Robert Keeley's website.
What I Like About This Robert Keeley Electronics Fuzz Head: Love the combination of distortion and a bit of fuzz, excellent for punch during solos. Has a switch to change from silicon to germanium transistors (silicon gives more gain, germanium is a bit softer, good for the classic stuff).
With 2 knobs, it might seem like you might not be able to get a good range of sounds out of this pedal. Quite the contrary. There's an internal gain knob that is very easy to adjust, and if you want to adjust the bass/treble range of the pedal, there's an internal tone wheel, AND Robert includes several pop-in resistors for even more treble or bass.
What I Do NOT Like About The Robert Keeley Electronics Fuzz Head: There really isn't much I don't like about this pedal. I kinda wish some of the tone knobs were on the OUTSIDE of the pedal, rather than on the inside. But once you find your tone, you won't have to change it again.
Robert Keeley Electronics Fuzz Head Quality Rating: Rock solid, excellent design. Really bright blue LED!
Review Summary: If you like classic rock and blues and want crunch for the harder stuff, it really doesn't get much better than the fuzzhead. I spent a long time trying to find a lead boost pedal, I checked out fuzz pedals, overdrive pedals, and eventually settled on the fuzzhead. It costs a lot, but it really is worth it. Beware, it is NOT a fuzz pedal!! It's more of an overdrive/distortion pedal with just a bit of fuzz. I think that about covers it...oh and playing through a tube amp with this puppy is a huge bonus =D
