Alvarez Review: PD-80sc

Alvarez Acoustic Guitars

History: Acoustic guitarist, percussionist, and vocalist. Classic country, rock, folk.

Purchase: Seminole Music, a local music store here in the Tampa Bay area. $500 for the guitar and an Alvarez hard shell case.

What I Like About This Alvarez PD-80sc: Beautiful looking, playing, and sounding guitar. Plays, looks, and sounds as well or better than some guitars costing 3-4 times more. Solid engleman spruce top, wish Taylor and Martin offered this. Gold tuners, abalone rosette and headstock logo, as well as 12th fret inlay. I like the plain rosewood fingerboard.

What I Do NOT Like About The Alvarez PD-80sc: Plastic nut, saddle, and bridge pins. I would like to see them use bone or Tusq. It still sounds like a dream straigth from the factory.

Alvarez PD-80sc Quality Rating: Excellent. Solid Engleman spruce top, solid mahogany back, laminated mahogany sides. Rosewood bridge and fingerboard. Nice light wood trim and zigzag back. Gold tuners. The electronics are very good (System 600 MkII).

Review Summary: Totally awesome guitar for the money. You could only find something that looks, plays, and sounds better for thousands of dollars.

Alvarez RD-20sc Acoustic Electric - This is a good choice for someone who wants to play an acoustic without breaking the bank (cheap bastards). It's not some unknown, no-name piece of crap, and it should last you a while. ...

Alvarez RD20SC - This is my fifth guitar and my favorite of all. I have never owned an expensive guitar such as Martin or Gibson and I'm sure the RD20SC doesn't measure up with them, but if your are looking for a good sounding easy to play guitar under the $500.00 ma...

Alvarez RD10 - For a beginner who wants to learn how to play, I would recommend this guitar highly. Once you become more of an accomplished player, it might be a good idea to upgrade to a better guitar, however. For a beginner's guitar, I don't think there is a b...

Alvarez MD90 - Buy one of these and you will not be unhappy. There is no guitar under $1000 that can beat this. These are absolute treasures!...

Alvarez FD60AMB - The bottem line is that this guitar sounds great if you have an EQ pedal to use with it. It can be heard no problem with other instruments being played around you, and is able to cut through the mix. Its very easy to play. It seems well worth the mon...

Alvarez RD20 SL Left Hand - The Alvarez RD 20's I looked at (right and left handed) all had consistent quality of a much more expensive instrument. I got great service and customer support from the Website and saved some $$$ to boot!...
