History: I have been drumming for over 25 years, spent 3 years at music scholl have recorded and perfomed a wide range of styles from jazz to heavy metal.
Purchase: Drummers Paradise Melbourne, approx $550, I bought it as a kind of Beatles style crash for a slow 6/8 song I was recording with ringo type tom fills.
What I Like About This Sabian HH Manhattan 22" Ride: It is great as a long sustain old style 60's type crash or a washy ride for pop or rock playing. In fact probably the best available for this type of sound.
What I Do NOT Like About The Sabian HH Manhattan 22" Ride: It has too much overtone build up for jazz playing, and its a horrible whiney over tone too, even with light sticks. Might be better suited for big band playing than small ensemble, but doesn't have enough stick definition compared to wash, in my opinion to really create a nice groove, or carry the band. Retailing at around $650 too expensive also for the amount of work and thought that's gone into it.
Sabian HH Manhattan 22" Ride Quality Rating: The cymbal is as well constructed as any brand available, the quality to me seems pretty ordinary: neither fantastic nor low quality.
Review Summary: I don't know why this cymbal is marketed as a jazz ride its really a crash, and a very nice crash at that- beauty is in the eye of the beholder however.
