On 2007-10-21, zontar gave this Ibanez Electric Guitar a 5
History: I've been playing for over 30 years, mostly these days at Church, but still play bluesy stuff and whatever I feel like on my own.
Purchase: In 1980 I was going to go home, but my friend convinced me to go to a music store instead. When I walked in the first thing I noticed was a 1979 Ibanez Iceman on sale. (I believe it's an IC-200. I picked it up & spent over an hour playing it in the store. I put a hold on it & went baack for it the next day. (No Interac in 1980)
Pros: Just a few of the things I like-
The shape-when I first saw a picture of one I wanted one.
The balance of the body--I saw other reviewers call it unbalanced--and I must say I am confused by that--it is perfectly balanced between body and neck. This balance makes it easy to hold and play sitting or standing.
The sound.
The big frets (although I have no fret preference--I also love my fretless wonder Les Paul custom.) They make vibrato and string bending easy.
The slotted tailpiece makes for easier string changing.
Cons: Not much to not like. It's not as veratile as my Les Paul and has less sustain. But that's not a serious complaint.
Quality: Well made, there are a few chips from bumping it into things, but it's held up well.
It's a glued in neck.
Summary: The feel, sound, and look of this guitar are incredible. I'm not sure how it matches up against the newer Iceman models as I haven't tried them, but most of the ones I've seen have bolt on necks. While I don't have anything against bolt-ons (I own and enjoy a Fender Mustang) that does affect the tone and sustain.
When I started playing it, there weren't a lot around, and I got a lot of great comments on it, and made a lot of guitarists jealous.
On 2004-08-20, Bc Rich man gave this Ibanez Electric Guitar a 1
Purchase: I played it in a store.
Pros: Nothing at all. I play B.C. Rich guitars. I was not impressed at all. Im not even being Buyest. I just didn't like it.
Cons: The fret wire was to big. I tried soloing and i coundn't play near as fast as I could on a BC rich or jackson. There is this guy at school named Wes who owned an iceman, he kept putting down my bc rich and said his iceman had way better tone. I decided to test this for my self only to be very disappointed. The tone was horrable. I like a guitar that has a well rounded tone fore lead rythem and sometimes downtuned riffs. You pay to much for this thing. It is more of a begginers guitar. If you like to solo, I suggest a Jackson, BC rich or gibson.
Quality: It seemed to be constructed well. No problems here.
Summary: I don't wan't to knock Ibanez because I have not played to many. Only the Iceman and an other. I Still prefer my Bc rich to an Ibanez. I will have to try out more ibanezes to get a better feel for them. I know John Petrucci of dream theater used an Ibanez, so they must have some damn good guitars as well. I just can't say the iceman is all that special. Sorry Wes!
