Samick Review: Malibu Greg Bennett Signature

Samick Electric Guitars

History: I've been playing seriously for about a year after the dreaded 15 year sabbatical. I mostly play, classic rock, blues, some hard rock. Of course my influences are Jimmy Page, Leslie West, Clapton as well as Slash and Randy Rhoads. I've played in garage bands, never a payed gig (or one where our bar tab was lower than our profits). I love home recording now that it's digital and affordable.

Purchase: Traded Gibson SG for a Les Paul and got this as well. Around $300 value from what I've researched. Originaly was going to give it to a friend who was a begginer, but I liked it too much.

What I Like About This Samick Malibu Greg Bennett Signature: The neck on this guitar is awesome. It is the perfect c-profile with a beautiful satin finish. Thin, but not to thin with a rosewood fret boar, medium jumbo frets finished nicely with no rough edges, and about the most perfect taper of any neck I've ever played. It's a four bolt neck and if I ever get rid of the guitar, the neck is staying with me and will end up on something else. Can't tell you how nice the neck is.

What I Do NOT Like About The Samick Malibu Greg Bennett Signature: The single coils are a little weak and can really hiss when plugged into a distortion pedal. They are sensitive, but not like a real high-end Strat. The high and the middles are there, no lower end snap, but hey, there single coils.

Samick Malibu Greg Bennett Signature Quality Rating: Overall the finish is flawless with a deep cherry red paint and white trim. One volume, two tone pots and a five-way selector.

Review Summary: I thought this was a heap guitar that would make a great gift for a beginner, than I played it and fell in love with the smooth action, satin finish and profile of the neck. I have played lesser necks on guitars costing 10 times more. Intonation need tweaking, but over all, this axe will deliver in the living room, garage or the stage. A great value and really decent guitar.
