Purchase: I purchased this bass at Guitar Center in Pasadena, California. I was playing guitar, but then fell in love with the sound of bass, so therefore i decided to play the instrument. I paid about 200 bucks with a padded gig bag.
Pros: This little baby FLIES for 200 dollars. I don't see why anyone wouldn't start off with this bass. I mean...just the pickup configuration itself is great. I can get so many different tones, it's just unimaginable. The Neck is probably the best 200-600 dollar bass neck i have ever played upon. My bass basically shows up any bass i have ever seen played live infront of me except basses over 700 bucks (come on...obviously). After about a year of playing the bass i decided to upgrade the pickups and the preamp in the Ibanez GSR200. I hooked it up with an EMG P/J set and a new active EMG preamp. I now run it through an Ampeg B2R head and a Ampeg SVT410HE cab. i am so please with this set.
Cons: Well there isn't anything i don't like considering how much i payed for it. I consider this bass such a steal. i mean, the knobs were kinda loose and all...but i bought new ones..the one's you can tighten. The pickups weren't the greatest although they were good...i threw in 160 for the EMG's. The neck is just amazing...ofcourse there was buzz out of the box, but hey...its 200 bucks. what do u freakin expect, a warwick? i fixed the fret buzz a bit by adjusting the bridge and all that yada yada.
Quality: For the 200 dollars that i payed, i could NOT be happier. I've been through so much with this bass...and it's just Rock Hard. The light agathis body makes this bass so fun to play and easy on the back. The neck is fast (remember for 200-700 dollar price range) and easy to play on. I recommend this to any beginner-intermediate level bass player. I will soon buy myself either a IBANEZ SR3000E or a TOBIAS Growler 4...

Summary: Great bass. for beginners-intermediates. Easily one of my life long companions. i would never trade or sell this bass. i love it. Jewel blue finish rocks by the way.

Purchase: My parents got me this bass for christmas at this place in mira mesa, san diego called whittakers for 200$.
Pros: The bass gives off a high-quality tone sound that i enjoy a lot. By it's price you'd think its something for beginners, but it's sound is good enough to satisfy any bassist. It truly is good, i like it a lot.
Cons: theirs not much i don't like. Everything is good except the fact that it gives off a buzzing feedback sound.
Quality: agathis body, maple neck, 3 weird controls that can make any style of sound that you want, good quality.

Summary: Overall this bass is really good. Its so cheap and yet it gives a great toney sound of which i love. I highly recommend getting it.

Purchase: My dad got this for me for Christmas at a shop called Music 47 which is somewhere either in Worcestershire or Warickshire in England (I think it may be Kidderminster) for £199. I've seen them a little cheaper.
Pros: It has a great feel to it, easy to play, fantastic for beginners, good for all styles especially slap plus it has great looks. I took how good it was for granted before my friends got basses which were fender copies for the same price. I concluded my bass was much better.
Cons: When you pluck the strings it sometimes makes a noise against the pickups but thats rare and it sounds fine most of the time.
Quality: A good sturdy bass. Mines had a few knocks and plays exactly the same as i got brand new. I did have a problem with the tone knob but that was easily fixed.

Summary: All in all a brilliant bass with great tone and a great price. Don't be tempted by precision copies 'cos this ones way better and i'd recomend you get it. Now!!!

Purchase: I am just learning to play the bass and was looking for something better than the starter packages. I found this one at our local music store for $240.00 Considering I live in AK I was please as shipping would have made an online purchase about the same. I borrowed a few other basses and with my limited experience found this one to have the most variety of sounds and was comfortable to dare I say play. Plus all the input I got from others was positive toward an Ibanez.
Pros: Some of the other guitars that I tried were either heavy or unblanced. One, a Peavey, immediately pointed to the floor if I didn't hold it up while using a strap. Overall the gsr 200 was in my price range and was rated pretty strong for my needs/price.
Cons: So far.....NOTHING!
Quality: My bass has worked great. It looks nice and I have received several positive comments. Again, I do not have much experience, but I enjoy just picking it up and messing around. I try to practice too.

Summary: I would highly reccommend the gsr 200 to anyone with similar needs. I read someone's review and he/she felt that it was not good enough for live performances, but I use mine at church every Sunday. I suppose that doesn't really push any limits though.

Purchase: Speed Music, Newport, Gwent. Paid £180.00 As a guitarist in a band that needed a bass player, (and guess who got the job) I didn't want to spend much on a first bass. I wanted a trusted manufacturer and a good looking instrument. The guys at Speed Music have always been honest with me (as far as I know!) and they also reccomended it.
Pros: It looks good, mine is in red. The neck is narrow, which for a new player of a six string player trying bass is easier. You don;t need hands like shovels to play this bass. The action is also pretty low, which again makes it easy to play. A tone control and independant volume controls for both the neck/bridge pickups means that there's plenty of scope for any tone you want.
Cons: The body does show finger marks and smudges, so regular cleaning is required, if you like that sort of thing! Active pickups would have been nice, but then it is a cheap model and for most of us mere mortals it not a big deal.
Quality: As you'd expect with Ibanez the build quality is excellent.

Summary: In summary I'd say as a first bass or for someone on a buget (like me) this bass is excellent it sounds, plays and feels like a much more expensive model. For the average bedroom player, or pub band bassist you can't get better for the money!

Purchase: I acquired my GSR200 at Musician's Workshop in Asheville, NC. I got the GSR200 because I had tried the GSR190 in the beginners "Jumpstart Kit" and was very impressed. The GSR200 has completely enclosed tuning keys, so I got it over the 190. The price I paid was $229, well worth it for what you get. This is a fine instrument.
Pros: I used to play rock 'n roll for a living. I did that for about 11 years and in the course of my music career I owned two American made Fender Precisions, a Gibson bass, a Rickenbacker and a Music Man bass. Those basses cost me $500-$800 each in the 60's and 70's and I like my GSR200 better. It is lighter than the Precision and the Music Man, and has a faster neck than the Precision or Music Man. I think it sounds as good as both and much better than the Rickenbacker. And it is ten times the bass the Gibson was.
Cons: I had some fret buzz problems when I first got it, but having set up a lot of basses and guitars when I was a working musician, I was not too concerned. The angle of the neck, respective to the body, was not exactly right. Now, this is something you see in very expensive basses too, and some even have built-in tilt adjustments. But for having only paid $229 dollars, I did not mind taking the neck off and putting a shim under it. It plays great now and I have no significant buzz.
Quality: I am an extremely picky person (no pun intended). Having worked professionally as a musician, I wanted a good instrument (even though I am only playing for my own enjoyment now). I can assure you, this instrument is very well put together. I would use it on stage with no reservations, and would not feel I had to have a backup bass.

Summary: While this axe does not have active electronics, the tones produced by the two pickups, Precision-style pickup up front and Jass-style pickup in back, are excellent. The intonation is near-perfect too, thanks to a great bridge. I can play a note on the 19th fret and the next fatter string (two octaves) without the slightest heterodyne. All-in-all, I am totally amazed at the quality Ibanez offers in this instrument for such a low price. Oh, and the harmonics on this axe are great.

Purchase: I SAW MY GUITAR IN ALLAN'S MUSIC, I PAID $400, BECAUSE IT WAS A DEMONSTRATOR.
Pros: IT IS ONLY MY SECOND BASS GUITAR, BUT I THINK I WANT EVER HAVE A BETTER GUITAR THAN A SOUNDGEAR. THE QAULITY OF THE BUILD IS EXCEPTIONAL, THE SMOOTH NECK ALLOWS FOR FAST EASY PLAYING, THE THREE PICKUPPS FOR VARIED SOUND, THE SMOOTH SHAPE,NICE CLEAR RED LACQUER, WITH WOOD GRAIN UNDERNEATH, SMOOTH MACHINE HEADS AND THE WELL BALANCED CHROME CONTRASTS.
Cons: THERE IS NOT ONE BAD THING I WOULD SAY ABOUT THE GSR200.
Quality: CONSTRUCTION IS STRONG AND ALL OF THE EDGES ARE SMOOTH FOR COMFORT. THE ELECTRONICS ARE OF GOOD QAULITY AND PRODUCE EXCEPTIONAL SOUND.

Summary: IBANEZ MAKE THE BEST GUITARS AND THE GSR200 IS NO EXCEPTION. THEY LOOK SLEEK AND THEY PLAY WELL.

Purchase: I purchased thiss bass as a first bass in a laval (quebec) store named planetmusik. It was 340$ canadian so its: 227$. I had also the opportunitie to buy a squier mb-4 for 200$: i made the good chose because squier is a little subdivision of fender but ibanez is ibanez.
Pros: Wow! The look is reel great: mine is black. The fact that there is two pickups( a jazz and a rock ) makes a lot of different sound for different styles. By the way , i am totaly punk! there is also the tone button that works perfectly. The rosewood neck makes its play smoothly. Damn i like this bass!!!
Cons: Hum lets see: the cable that cames whit it was poor quality so buiyed new one for 10$
Quality: Hey, its ibanez so its meen great quality : so fuck the crapy guy that said ibanez sucks. Me , I like IBANEZ. The bridge is well made like the pickups. Nothing to complain.

Summary: If you are like me (starting in bass), i recomand this bass: you have to pay the 100$ of extra to have two pickups. Thats it. ( if you liked my review : check out acoustic guitar/seagull cedar or: bass guitar amplifier:Ibanez sw20 Thanks

Purchase: I bought this lil' axe from Guitar Center for $110
Pros: It looks great, and takes hits from the hardwood floor great!2 pickups nice rosewood neck. really really nice strings. easy to tune, and nice sound even when unamped. Another great bass from Ibanez, and I can't put the damn thing down!
Cons: Like I said, this thing does not wanna sit down on the stand, but it always stays in my hands! The strap falls off the holster alot, and it requires very percise tunning. I have no sound problems with this unit what so ever.
Quality: I dropped it enough times, and it still stands stong. The guys at guitar center need to tighten some things, but it still plays! The only consturction problem was the a string popping off the first time I tunned it. Also, its a bit heavy on my shoulders, but it isn't to bad. The guy @ guitar center wasn't lying; this bass is strong.

Summary: The bottom line is: if you want a cheap good beggeing bass, Ibanez GSR200 is for you. It can sound beefy, or light and is the best guitar to learn on. For the price you get a lotta guitar. A definite must buy for any1 serious about getting into the best style of guitar: bass!

Purchase: i purchased this bass on musicians friend for about $205.
Pros: this unit has a slim neck which is good for fast fret work. the p and j pickups allow for sweet tone mixing. the wood used in the body makes for a warm but resonant tone. its lightweight and stays in tune forever.
Cons: the controls can sometimes be annoying to manipulate to get the tone you're looking for.
Quality: one piece high quality neck, rosewood fretboard, slim neck, neck is bolted on, the knurled metal knobs are great. high quality build.

Summary: a great, versatile, wellbuilt bass. great tone and feel ina lightweight package.

Purchase: I picked up this bass from my local store in wycombe (england) simply because i had become interested in playing bass and this seemed to be by far the best starter option.I paid 240 UK pounds (about $350).This price included a 10 watt practice amp, gig bag, picks, and a book and cd.
Pros: The neck is thin and easy to wrap your fingers around - ideal for beginners who have not yet developed finger strength. It gives a wonderful sound for it's price and most importantly-it looks sweet!!!
Cons: The Jazz pickup buzzes very occasionally .Nothing to woory a bout , especially when playing at a decent volume.
Quality: This is where this bass really excells. Most 'starter basses' are built like shit, but this isn't a starter bass. It's a proper one at an affordable price.

Summary: If you are starting out, this is really the only option unless you have too mutch money for your own good.BUY IT!!

Purchase: I bought mine from Musician's Friend for $200
Pros: When i bought this bass, I was not very educated about quality, tone, or anything that makes a guitar good. I consider myself very lucky. This is a great guitar. The construction quality is great. I have no complaints. Not one thing has happened that upset me. I love the neck of this guitar. It is thin and this allows you to play many different styles of music. The bass itself is also very versitile. You can adjust your sound to many different styles of music. Once I changed the crappy factory strings I ould play any style of music I want. Punk, rock, funk. About a month after I bought this bass I went to my local music store and tryed just about every single bass there. It was much better than any bass that had a price around $200, but not too cloce to the quality of a $500 or above bass. Still, for $200 dollars I would say this about the best beginning bass anyone could want. If you are just starting to play this is a bass for you, but even if you are an intermediate player on a budget you will like this guitar.
Cons: No complaints!
Quality: This guitar has great construction compared to any other guitars near its price range. The bolts are tight, the finish is even and bright. Overall this bass has very good quality.

Summary: I like this guitar. It has good constuction, it looks nice, and plays very well. This guitar is for begining and intermediate bass player. I also think that it won "Best Bass" from Musician's Friend, but don't hold me to that.

Purchase: I bought my bass over the telephone from Musician's Friend. I only paid $200 plus tax.
Pros: I love my bass, its' my baby. It's only a cheap starter bass but I love it. I like the color- Jewel Blue which is almost completely covered in stickers, but I liked it when I bought it. Its great! The body is comfortably shaped and extremely light. This makes it an easy bass to plop on a couch and play, or jump around a stage, or whatever you like to do. I also like the neck. It is extremely thin when compared to Fenders. This makes it a very easy bass to play. I can move up and down the neck quickly, and this makes it possible to play many different styles of music. I play alternative, funk, punk, etc, and it sounds great. I also like the P and J style pickups because you can really mold your sound, even without an equalizer. One other thing I like about my bass is the craftsmanship. Even though it is just a starter model it has great construction. It also has great tone and sound.
Cons: I didn't like the crappy factory strings that came on my bass. They sounded really bad and just didn't feel right. Once a replaced them everything was great except that the J- style pickup has a tendency to buzz. This isn't noticable when you are playing, but I can just about get rid of it by fooling around with my equalizer.
Quality: This bass (or at least mine) has great construction. The screws are all tight and nothing is amiss. The finish in jewel blue is sparkly in some light and is just a nice deep, dark blue in other light. It also is even, and painted to the edges. The neck has good action. I lowered my bridge to my preference but it was fine before. Also (an important one)- all the knobs work.

Summary: I like this guitar. It has good constructio, and the complaints I have are rather minor. It also has great sound and tone for a bass of it's price. I went to my music store and tried out some more expensive basses and I was impressed that my guitar was comperable to basses in the $300 range. I love my guitar.I tried out my freinds crappy squire which has a close price- no comparison. This cheap little bass has made me want my next bass to be IBANEZ. A good brand!
