Line 6 Review: Guitar Port

Line 6 Recording Gear

History:

Purchase: Purchased locally for $169. On paper, this is a great practice tool.

What I Like About This Line 6 Guitar Port: Nothing yet, as it won't work on my PC.

What I Do NOT Like About The Line 6 Guitar Port: The unit has *very* strict hardware requirements. If you are considering purchasing this product, read the hardware requirements. You can find them on the bottom of the box or at Line 6's web site. The guitarport requires a Pentium II at 400 mHz. I have an AMD K6/2 cpu running at 400 mHz. I run lots of very demanding software on this machine and it performs quite well. Unfortunately, the guitarport will not run on this cpu, even though it outperforms the Intel on many tasks. Consequently, I have to upgrade my PC in order to run this product. I did a lot of reading at Line 6's web site. What I didn't know is that Line 6 lists the hardware requirements on two separate pages. One page is *much* more detailed than the other. Unfortunately, this is the one I didn't read before purchasing the product. Save yourself a headache and make sure that your hardware supports this product before you make the purchase.

Line 6 Guitar Port Quality Rating: Unit is pretty simple and appears to be well-constructed.

Review Summary: Make sure your hardware is up to the task; otherwise, the cost of this product will be substantially higher.

Rating of this Line 6 product: 3
