Samick Review: Silvertone SG-11

Samick Electric Guitars

History:

Purchase: Starter Package at Media Play for $169.99.

What I Like About This Samick Silvertone SG-11: Well, the reason I got one was as a christmas present. The only good thing about this guitar is that you can abuse it because after learning on it and playing your other friends' guitars then you wont care about taking care of it. It stays in tune pretty well but I don't carry it around much either. Nice black finish with a white pickguard. Good for beginners (like me) who are also learning to take care of a guitar, not just play.

What I Do NOT Like About The Samick Silvertone SG-11: The wiring went out after only a month of playing on it. The pickups suck, the whammy bar's a joke (it bent) and except for the tuners everything else is plastic. The selector switch doesn't work because of the wiring, and I can't get full volume so forget about having fun with the distortion. It only comes with 1 volume and 2 tone controls. The frets are a lot wider than others and the strings aren't as close to the bow, but it did come with the tools to adjust it. (I thought it was gonna snap in half when I tightened it the first time. Scared me to death.)

Samick Silvertone SG-11 Quality Rating: The guitar is kinda heavy compared to others but this makes it more durable, I guess. It's tipped over so many times and all I have to show for it is a small dent on the top side.

Review Summary: Overall, this guitar sucks. It's definitely a beginners guitar but more encouragingly, save up a little bit and get yourself a much better guitar. I didn't know whether I was going to like playing the guitar. I was taking it up as a new hobby, and after having this as a first guitar, I'm not sure why anyone would still want to play. The good thing that came out of this is that it makes you realize, if you're a beginner, that you need other stuff as well to take care of and manage the guitar. Once you learn to hold down the chords on this axe then you will be able to play all of the other guitars in the world, so that's definitely good. I'm giving this a #2 rating because no guitar out there is really bad, at least you can play on it and make music, and because it's really cheap to learn on. (The reason I got it in the first place.)
