History:
Purchase: I bought the Pearl Export 5 pc. kit from Boykins Music in Richmond, Virginia, to replace my former drumkit that was in deteriorating condition. I was suprized to bring home such a well rounded drumset for $800.00.
What I Like About This Pearl Export Series Drumkit (3): The Bass Drum Single Foot pedal was suprisingly light and agile. After only a few minutes of adjusting the tension, it became very fast and was reasonably smooth as well. Also, the snare was very well rounded also. With the right head combination and tension adjustment on the snarebed, it produced a crisp and articulate attack with only mild ring, and the rimshots were beautiful. The toms are also as well rounded. Nice shells and outer finish too.
What I Do NOT Like About The Pearl Export Series Drumkit (3): The only thing I did not like about the Export series were the tom sizes. Included were the typical 12", 13", and 16" diameters. I recommend that drum companies, including Pearl, include a 14" rack tom in place of the 13" for a more balanced sound. I am sure many drummers would agree.
Pearl Export Series Drumkit (3) Quality Rating: For the small price you pay for this kit, it is of great quality. The hardware is good and does not have the same "slipping" problems as most entry level drumkits. I have never had any problems with the lugs, hardware, or shells. A true bargain from Pearl. It is only a few hundred dollars more than the Forum series drumkit. The Export Kit is a sound investment.
Review Summary: All in all, the Pearl Export kit is the best drumset for the money in all respects, and it is well rounded for players of any style, at any level of drumming. Begginer, Semi-Pro, or even for Pro's on the go. -Christopher M. McKinney Drummer/Percussionist for the P.E.A.R.L. Project http://pearlproject.virtualave.net/
