ESP LTD EC300AT Review

History:

Purchase: Mars Music closeout sale 11/02- it looked so fine & sounded so sweet I had to get it to expand my arsenal- paid $400!

Pros: It's sort of a cross between a LP, a Hamer semi-hollowbody, & a Guild Blueshawk. It has great warmth & harmonics - must be the mahogany block- with unbelievable sustain- better than my Hamer import double-cutaway & it's very light. It grabbed my attention because of it's looks- white with gold hardware. The variation in tone is really good. The bridge pickup is very high pitched and will cut through the band mix quite well. After 2 weeks or so I pulled my Roland synth pickup off an old guitar & slapped it on the ESP. Now it's hard to choose between the ESP & my Brian Moore i8-13.

Cons: The bridge pickup is 'thin' but you could use another guitar for shredding or tweak out your effects/amp emulation. The back is not sculpted in any way so you can't kick back & relax w/o it digging into your ribs- probably an LP copy 'feature'

LTD EC300AT Quality: Very good quality for a Korean import- they have their cloning down to an art. No defects to be seen, so far.

ESP Summary: If you want a semi-hollow body sound this is a great buy. The range of sound you get is great. For me it was either get a Roland VG-88 Guitar emulator or buy more guitars. You can't have too many guitars!
