Rode NT3 Microphone Review

Rode Microphones

History:

Purchase: Brought mail order from Muciansfriend.com paid $159.99 I brought this true condensor mic for live recording and sound reinforcement of instruments and choral groups. I also needed a flat hypercardiod mic that I could set back from classical soloists who don't like to be seen with a mic

What I Like About This Unit: This is an amazing mic for the money. It's frequency response is absolutely flat, the mic electronics have very low self noise and the output is at least 15db hotter than dymanic mics. The hypercardiod response is flat across the frequency band. You can get a fair bit of gain without feedback from nearby monitors Playback of recording made with the mic are crisp and clear with accurate sounding acoustic bass

What I Do NOT Like About The Rode NT3 Microphone: There is nothing I don't like about this mic but it is not suitable for holding to the mouth (a vocal mic with bass rolloff should be used), also the mic is a little too heavy to be hand held for long periods

NT3 Microphone Quality: The NT3 is a solid nickel body. It has internal shock mounting and overall the unit is extermely well made

Summary: The NT3 in my opinion sounds as good as my AKG C1000s which cost $30 more. The NT3 is more sensitive (by at least 9db). The NT3 is a excellent value for the money and is solidly made.
