Purchase: I purchased this from an Exchange store on base for $250 USD back in 1998. Wanted to continue my practicing while I served in the Army.
Pros: It is a well made and solid guitar. Had bright sound with it's original strings. When the strings were replaced with a more heavier strings, had very nice resonance. Stays in tune very well over the period I've had it.
Cons: Action on the strings were a little high until I changed to a heavier string. Some of the fret edges were rough and required a little filing on the edges.
Quality: Very solid in construction. Some fret edges were rough.

Summary: Very good guitar for learning and practicing with. Had this now for over 7 years and it still is going strong. I use it now to teach my daughter how to play as I've graduated to a better guitar.

Purchase: I acquired the guitar throw music and Arts. I payed about 300.00 for it a case a tuner and a pack of strings.
Pros: It is a great beginers model. If you are not shure you are going to stick with it like me you can bye it and move up to a better one when you have the money and the skill.
Cons: It is cheap and very easely damaged. I damaged myn by the slightest hit.
Quality: The quality sucks. I tried to put a pick-up in it to send my sound back to are church sound guy andn it did not make it back there. it has a great sound if you do not want to send it throw a pick-up.

Summary: If you are just thinking about playing it then this would be a great insterment for you but if you know for a fact that you are going to stick with it get something a little bite better.

Purchase: I bought a Yamaha F-310 about a year and a half ago from a catalogue store in the high street. I paid £100 ($150) for it and the package included a guitar tutor book by Yamaha. Admittedly, I chose this guitar for its price - it is very reasonable to get a steel string guitar for £100!
Pros: I thoroughly enjoy playing this guitar. It has a nice bright sound and complements other acoustic guitars nicely. It also stays in tune for a long time. It has also maintained its sound well and hasn't started making any nasty noises yet!
Cons: I found that the action on the strings to be a little too high - so I had the bridge lowered. Unfortunately, that made the strings buzz on some frets. I therefore had the frets smoothed and filed down. Now it sounds gorgeous! I have also replaced the strings with a heavier set. I found this resonated the body much better and produced a more rounded sound - especially on the bass strings.
Quality: The construction is pretty good. The frets were a little rough perhaps. I have looked after mine fairly carefully and it looks the same as the day I bought it.

Summary: For a starter guitar it is good value and plays quite nicely. After a couple of years though I would suspect that most people would want to buy a more expensive guitar.

Purchase: Paid $250 w/case in 1999 as a first guitar.
Pros: It has surprisingly good sound, which was the reason I bought it.
Cons: The bridge tore off the guitar, and one fret was not placed quite right creating a buzz when played.
Quality:

Summary: The guitar has a very good sound for the price, it is a decent first guitar. Just be carefull what type of strings you place on it.

Purchase: This is my Costcos guitar. Yes, I bought a guitar from Costcos Wholesaler... it was a 100 dollar package thingie...and basically was bought for convience. It was my first guitar, and a "trial" to see if I was serious or not.
Pros: I like the fact that I can use the "Costco Guitar" pun on it... but as in the guitar itself, it seems to stay tuned for a while as long as you don't bang it around... and... well, its a guitar! That's an up! >D And its shiny! I'm easily amused, so shiny is a good thing.
Cons: The sound isn't all that great, but its not like you expect a Costco guitar to have great sound. I also broke one of the strings that was included with it within a week... while loosening it.... and... its kind of a yucky yellow color.
Quality: The thing is quite solid, except I could dent it easily... is that an oxymoron? It didn't seem like it would fall apart and crumble. Nope.

Summary: The Costco Guitar was fine for my first year of playing, but after a while, you just need to move on. So, if you can ever find this guitar at Costco for 100ish bucks, and you just remotely want to learn acoustic guitar, and you don't mind if its not the best thing in the world, go ahead! Take the chance and buy it! >D
