History:
Purchase: Bought from www.themusicwarehouse.ltd.uk for £170 ($280). I bought the Left Handed version.
What I Like About This Unit: This is a really nice bass. It feels far more expensive than it really is. I've played a Peavey Milestone and a Squier P-bass and they both feel cheap and plywoody compared to this.
It has a wonderful richness and versatility of tone because of it's 2 pickups (1 single coil at the bridge, 1 split pickup further up). The electronics are nice, and it sounds good , but it's playability is where it really shines. If you want a really easy to play bass, this it it. It's incredibly forgiving. You can play what you like, how you like on this and It'll sound great.
What I Do NOT Like About The Yamaha RBX270: The only downsides to this bass are the fact that it can be a little fretbuzzy with lighter ringwound strings, and the high action, while perfect for the beginner, makes tapping difficult.
RBX270 Quality: Without equal at this price. It feels like a $700 fender. Everything from the finish to the hardware is wonderful on this instrument. Yamaha have some great service, so if something does ever go wrong, you've got the world's biggest instrument manufacturer to call on.
Summary: At this price, nothing comes close. Quite possibly the best beginner's bass.
