Gibson Review: SG Special Faded

Gibson Electric Guitars

History:

Purchase: I bought this guitar online at Musicians Friend becuase it was a Gibson, and had some awesome reviews on it at other websites. I paid $579 and it came with a free gig bag.

What I Like About This Gibson SG Special Faded: It is awesome. I've played a $3000 Strat, and the Gibson in my opinion out-performed the Strat. It has a very light-weight body so you can play for hours, and it never comes out of tune. It has sweet sound, one humbucker has a nice crisp clean sound, and the other has a kind of a bite, great for power-chords. The strings they put on it sound very crisp, and you can do bends, slides and vibratos very easily. Very nice guitar, and it is so nice looking. Worth the money. Oh, and the worn cherry finish is gorgeous.

What I Do NOT Like About The Gibson SG Special Faded: Nothing really, there is one problem. When I got it, the neck was really sticky, from the finish that was on it. You could still smell it, that's how new it was! But after a week of playing, it was just fine. There was another problem, the pickguard had a good-sized scuff running right between the two humbuckers. It's now disappeared though, but I scratched it up elsewhere with my pinkie when the fingernail got to long. Other than that, it's perfect!

Gibson SG Special Faded Quality Rating: When I first got it, I was a little worried about the glued on neck. (I guess it's glued on, it's not bolted on anyway.) But it is very nice, and it looks like it's all one piece, so whatever. Other than that, it is very nice construction.

Review Summary: Very good guitar, and it's a Gibson for under $600! It has great sound and playability. There's really nothing more to say except that if you have the money then you need to buy one of these!
