Purchase: I was looking for a bass guitar that I could learn on, but one that was good quality, and not a typical 'beginners' bass. I started off wanting an Epiphone EB0, but the waiting time was around 3 months, so I ordered this bass on www.gak.co.uk, and paid around £180 for it, and it arrived a few days later! Pros: I like the look of it; the colour (I got the mist purple one), the shapes quite cool, and the black headstock. It's really comfortable to play, and sounds wicked. Cons: Theres nothing I dont like about it. Quality: The quality of this bass is really good.
It has P/j style pickups, and a 24 fret neck. Review Summary: I love this bass, and I think it's easily the best bass of its type around for the price range money. I recommend it to anyone who is learning, or anyone who is looking for quality, at a affordable price. On 2003-08-07, M.V., Costa Mesa, Ca rated this Yamaha RBX270 a 5...(5408)
Purchase: I bought it at Guitar Center for $162.00 plus tax. It normally sells for $249.99, they had it on sale at $199.99, and I talked the salesman down to $162.00 ($175.00 out the door). Pros: It has a great sound for the money. The body style is very untraditional, not Fender-like in any way. It is modern-looking, but not to the extreme. It still looks classy. The metallic finish (mine is mist green) is very nice, somewhat understated. Nice neck, and the pickup covers make it look sophisticated. The side output jack is very practical, and the controls make it very easy to change your sound. Cons: Can't think of a thing. It rocks. Quality: Alder body (at this price!), maple neck, rosewood fretboard, dot markers, P and J style pickups with covers. The quality is unspassed for the money. If this bass sold in the $400.00 range, I probably would have still bought it. Review Summary: Yamaha makes no junk. Even their entry-level instruments are good for beginners and intermediates. I don't play in a band, I just record instrumental music at home on a four track, and I absolutely do not need something better. If music is how you make a living, spend $800.00 (or more). If you are a closet player like me, or if you're a weekend warrior, don't throw away your money. Buy this bass. It's righteous! On 2003-07-16, duffman rated this Yamaha RBX270 a 3...(5277)
Purchase: I bought this bass from Guitar World in Western Australia for $500 AUD. Pros: What I like about this bass is that it's a great starter bass at it's price for any style of playing. The tone of the bass does sound a lot better then the lower quality beginner basses. I would recommend this bass for people interested in giving bass a shot. It's also a great back-up bass! Cons: This bass is great for starting, but once you want to start jamming with a proper band, it doesn't fit in that well. You can't really adjust the sound quality of this bass that well, but if you have a good amp, I guess it could boost your tone a little. Quality: The quality of the bass isn't the best. I've only knocked it a few times and I already have some mini-dents here and there. I've also dropped the bass once from knee high by accident and it's chipped at the back even though it landed flat. Review Summary: It's a great beginner and back-up bass! I would recommend this for any beginner, but if you want to progress with your bass I suggest looking for a higher quality axe. Purchase: I got this awesome axe at Guitar Center. The key thing to do I find a price on the web, print it, and bring it into the store. They'll match the price. I got this Rolls Royce of a guitar at a Ford price. It was only $130 ($150 with all the needed eguipment). Pros: This Guitar is great. First of all, they throw in an extra pickup for deeper sound than other madels like the infamous "P" bass. Second, it has not only a volume and tone button, but a fade button too. Third, it just looks awesome. It jumps out at you with its one of a kind body and metallic paint. Finally, It produces a sound that is stage quality. It is a steal. Cons: The only two problems with this bass, and all of its typr that I've seen, is that the finish on the paint is somewhat sloppy and the knobs are very loose, too loose. Quality: The bass has a bolt on neck that can be adjusted from the bottom. It's body is a vairation of the "P" style. Also, It has three knobs, volume, tone, and fade. The fretboard is rosewood and the neck is thick and sturdy. Finally, it has excellent pickups. They are the best I've seen on any bass under $500. If the tag on this bass said $400, you'd believe it. Review Summary: This bass is great. It is good for both a starter and an established musician. The bass was so great that even though the only color that was left in the store was purple, I got it anyway. Keep rockin' with the Yamaha RBX270 bass! Purchase: I paid $170 plus shipping on Musicians Friend. Pros: Almost everything. It is built solid, has a great treble-rich sound, a fast action, and a cool finish. All this for only $170? It sounded a little too good to be true to me--until I played it. This one plays like basses 10x the price. If you are in need of a good, gigable bass for under 200, this is your one. Cons: The shape of the body looks kinda like the Rogue LX200 (which is the same price but looks worse and has a reputation for falling apart), and I think that Yamaha could give it a better name than the RBX270. Quality: Excellent. It is a solid little beast that will take a lot of abuse (however, if you harm it intentionally, I will come to your house and ***********************). Review Summary: It is a great buy for the money. So what if there's a stigma attached to the stage performer with an inexpensive Yamaha in his/her hands! It compares to the Music Man Stingray in sound. I only use my $1700 stingray in the studio. On stage, this baby really gives a blow to the gut. Purchase: Bought from www.themusicwarehouse.ltd.uk for £170 ($280). I bought the Left Handed version. Pros: This is a really nice bass. It feels far more expensive than it really is. I've played a Peavey Milestone and a Squier P-bass and they both feel cheap and plywoody compared to this.
It has a wonderful richness and versatility of tone because of it's 2 pickups (1 single coil at the bridge, 1 split pickup further up). The electronics are nice, and it sounds good , but it's playability is where it really shines. If you want a really easy to play bass, this it it. It's incredibly forgiving. You can play what you like, how you like on this and It'll sound great. Cons: The only downsides to this bass are the fact that it can be a little fretbuzzy with lighter ringwound strings, and the high action, while perfect for the beginner, makes tapping difficult. Quality: Without equal at this price. It feels like a $700 fender. Everything from the finish to the hardware is wonderful on this instrument. Yamaha have some great service, so if something does ever go wrong, you've got the world's biggest instrument manufacturer to call on. Review Summary: At this price, nothing comes close. Quite possibly the best beginner's bass. |
