Crate Review: BX-50DLX

Crate Bass Guitar Amplifiers

History:

Purchase: My Crate BX-50DLX set me back $269.00 at Guitar Center in Webster Texas.

What I Like About This Crate BX-50DLX: The sound, and adjustability of this amp are fantastic compared to everything else I looked at in its price range. From warm and deep to higher crunch, it will fullfill a good range of sounds. It has built in input for your CD to play a track to practice to, and a great built in chromatic tuner. This has proven to be a great aid in practice already. I am just starting out, and this thing lets me hear everything I am doing, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

What I Do NOT Like About The Crate BX-50DLX: Side mount handle, weight (45 pounds or thereabout), and no kick back provisions. Minor quibbles at worst. And a happy trade for all its great features and sound...

Crate BX-50DLX Quality Rating: Tank builders could learn a thing or two about this monster.

Review Summary: I am just starting out, and even though I don't bother twisting it up very far, it is CLEAR. This is a great amp for learning, and should prove to be a great amp for church or small club gigs, perhaps even small to medium outdoor parties would really get going with this thing. Don't take my word for it though. Go find stores that carry the amps you want to look at, and then test play the ones in your price range. For me, this is an unbeatable combo!

Crate GX 15 - It isn't so great of an amp, but the price is low. Save up if you want an amp big enough for a gig, and get a tube amp if you want nice sound. Use a pedal if you want distortion because the Crate GX 15 doesn't cut it....

Crate GFX-212 - This amp is good for playing small venue shows when your just getting started, but you would probably want a good practice space or a smaller practice amp to save the trouble of dealing with the neighbors....

Crate G1600XL Half Stack - This amp is great, there is no need in spending those thousands of dollars on those Mesa's and Marshall's. This is the amp for you, I have new found trust in Crate as amp producers. They have gained my trust. I always wanted those big Marshall stacks...

Crate BT 220 - Let down with the problems recently which is why i came on this site. Hopefully that is fixed now. If it is then i would say this is a good amp to buy at a reasonable price. If the problem comes back in a few weeks i will let you know and tell you...

Crate MX 20 RC - ...

Crate GX900H Head - The problem with this amp is that in the showroom it sounds good because you can't crank it well. A far better buy would be to dish out forty dollars more and get a glx1200h head. Then you have 30% more power and newer updated sounds. Or spend half a...

Crate MBX-10 - If you want a portable practice amp that is easy to tote, and don't need the feel it in your chest and watch the ceiling plaster shake factor, then this is a great amp. If you can only afford ONE amp, don't bother though. Even as a beginner, you will...

Crate GX-15 Amp - Well spent money. I tried a lot of practice amps. This sounded the best to me. I do it again. Like I said, have two, but I would buy one of them with a reverb. You won't be sorry with this one, no way....

Crate MX65R - Overal, a wonderful amplifier....
