Purchase: I PICKED THIS GUITAR UP AT THE STRING SHOP IN COLUMBUS ,OHIO IN 1989. I THINK I PAID $350 FOR IT AS IT WAS CONSIDERED A "NEW SECOND" DUE TO SOME MINOR PAINT FLAWS. THE REASON I GOT IT WAS BECAUSE I THINK IT WAS LIKE A $1000 GUITAR,AND THE NECK WAS THE NICEST NECK THAT I EVER PLAYED ON AN ACOUSTIC,...THEN OR NOW.
Pros: THE NECK IS VERY THIN AND PERFECTLY IN TUNE. IT ALSO HAS A BUILT IN PICK-UP WITH A THREE BAND EQ. IT LOOKS IMPRESSIVE, AND ALWAYS MAKES SOMEONE ASK "WHERE'S THE HOLE??"{IT DOESNT HAVE A SOUND HOLE} I ALSO LIKE THE GOLD HARDWARE.
Cons: WELL, OTHER THAN THE FAIRLY MINOR PAINT FLAWS, I DONT LIKE THE LOCATION OF THE EQ SWITCH, ITS IN THE SIDE TOP ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE. {I THINK ON THE NEWER MODELS ITS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SIDE, AT THE TOP} ALSO, CHANGING THE 9 VOLT BATTERY IS A LITTLE TRICKY. VISUALLY, I DONT LIKE THE HEADSTOCK BEING BLACK, THE GUITAR IS WHITE, AND I THINK THE HEADSTOCK SHOULD MATCH, BUT THATS JUST MY OPINION. I ALSO THINK IT WOULD LOOK BETTER WITH A BLACK PICK GUARD, AS IT HAS NO PICK GUARD. IT DOES SEEM TO SOUND VERY THIN THOUGH, ALMOST TINNY SOUNDING,VERY CRISP, ESPICALLY LIVE OR UNPLUGED. IT SOUNDS GREAT ON A RECORDING HOWEVER,WHERE I USED A 12 STRING EFFECT AND MORE EQ. SO ITS MORE LIKE AN AMPLIFACATION PROBLEM, ALTHOUGH NOT HAVING A SOUND HOLE WOULD CONTRIBUTE TO THAT SOUND AS WELL. IT SOUNDS REALLY GOOD ON CD.
Quality: THE GUITAR SEEMS VERY WELL MADE, OTHER THAN THE PAINT JOB, BUT I SAVED A TON OF MONEY AND WAS BUYING A PLAYER, NOT A COLLECTER PIECE. IT HAS BLACK TRIM ON FRONT AND BACK AND MOTHER OF PERAL OR ALBALONYSTONE{?}{DONT REMEMBER WHICH}ON TOP FRONT TRIM AS WELL. THIS GUITAR SEEMS VERY LIGHTWEIGHT, BUT VERY WELL MADE.

Review Summary: BOTTOM LINE....THIS IS AN ALVEREZ, AND THE BEST ACOUSTIC NECK I HAVE EVER PUT MY HANDS ON. IN FACT, THAT WAS THE FIRST THING I NOTICED THAT MADE ME KNOW RIGHT OFF, THIS BABYS GOING TO BE MINE!!

Purchase: Bought from local guitar store. First electric acoustic. Paid around $700
Pros: Very light guitar, but strong volume unplugged. Plays well. Neck size (width) is smaller than some acoustics so it's easier to play than my Takamine Jon Joergensen. I like the on/off button on the electronics. Some come on as soon as you plug in to your chord, but with this one, you get control of when you are on or off.
Cons: The electric pickup is built in such a way that you cannot replace the battery without reaching inside the strings, which means you have to loosen them way off or just change the battery every few string changes. You can also change out the battery by taking a couple screws out of the unit attachment. Also, the 1/4" plug had to be replaced. I stepped on the chord once while playing. Instead of just pulling out the chord, it actually ripped some wood loose. Had to replace it with a different type of connection. The local dealer took care of it no charge, which was nice.
Quality: Very light wood. Only problem is the plug in unit is in a weak spot on the guitar frame and can be easily broken out from the wood.

Review Summary: Good guitar. I would go for their top of the line electronic package (600, I think). Their 500 does not have a tuner built in.
