Crate Review: DX-212

Crate Guitar Amplifiers

History:

Purchase: I purchased it from a local guitar shop used for around $450.

What I Like About This Crate DX-212: I like the volume it pushes and the tone that it pushes. It is a very good amp for distorted tones and on board effects. It is a little difficult to get a clean tone but it has a great clean preset. It is extremely versatile.

What I Do NOT Like About The Crate DX-212: It is an extremely heavy amp weighing in at around 70 lbs. Thats a lot for a little guy like me. I don't like the difficulty to get a clean tone and acoustic tone. I haven't found a use for turning it up past 5 it is just too damn loud.

Crate DX-212 Quality Rating: It is a 212 combo with celestion speakers. It is a 100 watt combo amp and pushes every bit of it. It has 16 amp models to choose from that give you a varience in sounds you can get and use. The effects are very cool for getting spacy sounds out of your guitar. The quality is top notch for a solid state amp.

Review Summary: It is a good starting amp for a gigging musician. It is relatively inexspensive compared to its digital counterparts. It has served its purpose of being very very loud on several occasions and I love playing through this amp every day I've owned it.

Rating of this Crate product: 4

Crate GFX15 - It does what it was designed to do and does it very well. You don't drive nails with screwdrivers - you don't play out with a practice amp. As you grow in technique and range, this amp will get replaced with a more capable one. As a starter, it is...
