Martin Review: DX-1

Martin Acoustic Guitars

History:

Purchase: I bought it at Guitar Center for my birthday in April 2002. I payed $450.00 new.

What I Like About This Martin DX-1: I love the sound of this guitar. It's not as pretty as the higher end Martins, but it sounds just as good. I played every acoustic they had in stock, and when I was done the DX-1 was the best buy. The action was great and NO fret noise at all. Easy to pick and easy to chord.

What I Do NOT Like About The Martin DX-1: I wish it had the pearling in the neck and had a glossy finish on the body.

Martin DX-1 Quality Rating: This guitar is not massed produced. It is hand made and all seams match nicely. The smell of the wood is very nice. It smells like it was made yesterday.

Review Summary: For someone on a budget the DX-1 is the best full sized acoustic in sound and in play quality. Like I said earlier, I played over 50 guitars in the $199-$799, and even a few $1000-$2000, and for the basic acoustic guitar the DX-1 is the best. I love my Martin. If I had money to blow I'd buy a $2000 Martin, but I don't, and for the price of the DX-1 you get a great guitar. It's not as pretty as some, but out plays them all.

Martin D28 - It is a truly precipitious guitar. Once you own one you are committed to a certain style and niche as dictated by the thing itself. It has one purpose and you are going there with it or forget it. Also, perhaps not the best idea to by a 28 as a first...

Martin DC15E - Because Martin could slice a thiner face from mahogany is (I think) the reason my guitar sounds so gooooood! Be warned, I played exact models of the same guitar and they do not sound the same! When buying any acustic guitar practice "What You See Is ...

Martin D16GT - I am glad I found the D16GT, I paid about the same as if I would have ordered the D1. Good dealer and great guitar builders, great overall experience. Now I start saving for the D28....

Martin D-16GT - In short, I feel betrayed by Guitar Center and C.F. Martin. They sell these under the "legendary" and "classic" labels yet knowing full well they won't last. I thought I'd done due diligence in researching prior to purchase but I guess not enough. I...
