History:
Purchase: I purchased the PB 212 unit from N-Tune Music at the same time that I purchased the PB250 head unit (please see PB250 review). I paid approximately $600 for the cabinet.
What I Like About This Unit: The cabinet is stylish yet rugged and amazingly lightweight. There are two 12" speakers and a tweeter in this cabinet, plus removable casters with a locking telescoping handle, and I can lift it with one hand. I love it. I can bring in my amp, bass, and cabinet in one trip. I rarely have help loading and unloading for a gig, so this is the biggest advantage for me. Plus, the two 12's handle the low B on my 5-string without a problem.
What I Do NOT Like About The Ampeg PB 212 Portabass 2-12" Cabinet: It's perfect for my needs.
PB 212 Portabass 2-12" Cabinet Quality: Again, the unit is extremely light (approx. 38 lbs.), yet produces a rich, full, clean sound. It has Speakon inputs as well as the standard 1/4" inputs. There is a telescoping handle that has casters attached to it, and the handle (with casters) is removable, making it easier to slide into my vehicle. The power handling capacity is 400 watts RMS into 8 ohms. (I think... you might check out the Ampeg website for the exact specs on power handling.)
Summary: A smaller cabinet with a big sound and great power handling capabilty. Sleek design with simple, functional conveniences like the casters and telescoping handle make the Ampeg 212 cabinet a viable alternative to the much larger (and much heavier) cabinets available today. Thanks Ampeg!
