Purchase: i have been playing guitar for about a year and half, my first guitar was a squier bullet guitar so i needed a new one, i called around and found an Ibanez RG470 used for $250, with a retail of $600 i figured somthing had to be wrong with it, i was wrong..
Pros: i love the feel of the guitar and the locking tremelo system is really nice, i love it a lot, i dont have the standard pickups, the person who had it before me replaced all of them all i know is that the neck and bridge pickups are dimarzio and the middle pickup is a fender lace sensor red. I wouldnt trade this guitar for anything.
Cons: The low E string buzzes, but that might just be because i bought it used, other than that i have no dislikes.
Quality: It has great quality to it, nice sound and the construction is amazing as well

Summary: If you are looking for a new guitar and want a great guitar for a fair price then buy this guitar, it is handsdown the best guitar i have ever played.

Purchase: I was looking for a new guitar that was gig worthy and to replace my old guitar. I didnt have a lot of money and was looking at around £300-£500. My local guitar shop had this unit in special and had been custom tuned to fit steve vai style playing, Perfect! I purchased it brand new for £400 after having £50 knocked off because it had been sitting in the shop for about 3 months.
Pros: The neck is extremelly slick, very easy to play on and the fretboard is superb for tapping, legato, sliding, bending etc etc It also helps that the action is lowered just right so pulling off these lead techniques was a sinch! For the price, the pick-ups are superb, excellent sound quality when playing lead and traditional metal. Perfect for live gigs but may need some tuning for studio recording. The weight of the guitar is nice, not to heavy and not to light so the natural sustain is great. Its small and doesnt get in the way when moving towards the 24 fret and the selecter switch and knobs are out of reach when doing these solos with your playing hand (but you can easily get to them with your picking hand) The locking tremelo system is also great, it takes about 3-4 attempts to get the tuning in place once new strings have been put on, since i purchased it back in september 2002, i have had 3 new string replacements and only ever had to tune it when i replaced the strings. Also the body is tough as hell, i have smashed it many times (hitting walls by accident etc) and only little chips of the body work have come off.
Cons: Things i dont like about the guitar are just the fact that you cant down tune it without having to change the action setup. Because i have my strings on a low action, dropping to D would cause the system to mess up and lower strings to vibrate against the fretboard. This is not the guitars fault, its because its been changed to suit standard tuning and solo'ing.
Quality: The body is tough and built to last. Its taken many hits and only scratches and chips have appeared, none of the hits have effected the sound, fret board etc etc Everything stays in place as it should

Summary: I love this guitar, i would like to down tune it but you cant have everything. If you want to down tune, get a guitar without a floyd rose or change the action on this one before you do. i have had fun using this guitar and would recommend it to anyone who wants to start gigging or learn lead guitar

Purchase: I bought the guitar from axemail.com, based in colchester, a great shop to do business with, must be about 5 years old now. I think it was about £400.
Pros: I've played it practically every day for the last 5 years, gigged it too, and it still looks amazing, the odd scratch but nothing for the amount of use its had. Its sounds great, plays awesomely, the neck feels great, and I use it for everything from blues and jazz to punk and metal. I absolutely love it, and I'm not sure I'd ever get rid of it.
Cons: One problem is that my floyd rose sometimes has problems staying in tune nowadays, and tuning it is a bit of a hassle, but the pro's of a floyd rose outweigh the con's, but I'm looking at getting a tremsetter, so all that should improve anyway. Also, I've thought about changing the pickups for Dimarzio Tone Zone's or PAF Pro's for a fatter sound, but for the money I think it couldn't be better.
Quality: Its really built solidly, everything's really tough and the finish (Mine is Jewel Blue) is excellent, and still polishes up really nicely (A bit of Auto Glym Super Resin Car Polish works like a dream!!) The electrics are great, no hum or noise, all in all excellent built quality

Summary: An awesome guitar at an awesome price, I don't think you could find better for the money. I've just ordered an Ibanez SZ520QM to have along side it to offer a guitar with more tuning flexibility, and a warmer sound. Can't wait till it arrives!!!!

Purchase: I purchased this guitar new after trying out the lower end RG300 series. Paid $700.00 canadian over 1 year ago.
Pros: Locking Tremolo system is nice, never goes out of tune. Pickups are deadly. I run it through a Peavey Bandit and an effects pedal. You can muster up a whole variety of sounds with this axe. From SRV to Santana. Not great for jazz though, I miss my old Sheridian for that fat sound.
Cons: Break the high E string, and the whole thing goes out of tune ( a real hassle during a lead break). Changing string gages from 9 to 10 means an hour or more setting up. You have to adjust the spring tension on the trem, and also adjust the trem settings. A bit of a pain, but once set up, it holds the tuning. The Jumbo frets are too soft. Mine are starting to show a lot of wear(Only one year old and I don't play the thing everyday.)
Quality: This unit is solid and cool paint scheme (New Copper Penny finish) I really love the neck. A buddy of mine owns the same guitar and told me it's fast. I did not know what he ment , until I bought mine. Fast, slick you name it. ( I actually do play faster on this guitar)

Summary: Better fret wire would make this one heck of a guitar.

Purchase: Bought slightly used in 1999. Paid about $350
Pros: It's light, the low strings are easy on the fingers, narrow neck is easy to work with.
Cons: What I don't like? Grab a cup of coffee folks, there's going to be some reading here. Let me say first off that I'm not very good with a guitar. I've messed around with them since Jr. High (I'm 32 now) but knew I'd never be really good, and just don't put a lot of effort into practice. I mainly just hack-out songs from tabs when the mood strikes. With that said: - Tremola system. Out of about 10 electrics with tremolas that I've owned (including some pretty cheap ones - Cort flying V for example), this is the absolute worst. I can't keep this thing in tune for anything. I don't even put the whammy bar on anymore for fear of bumping it and knocking it out of tune. I don't use the fine-tuning knobs for the same reason.. just a slight bit of pressure and it's worse than when you started. - Low strings. Even though it makes playing easy in standard tuning.. tuning down 1/2 step (which seems to be around 1/3 of the rock songs out there) makes for a buzz on several strings that has made me put the thing back in it's case. - Tone control seems more like a fine-tune volume knob.. it doesn't seem to do much with tone at all, other than on the high end. - plug comes loose constantly, even after locktighting the lock nut.
Quality: Quality is about what you'd expect at this level for a strat. It feels fairly solid, but be careful with it.. the finish chips easily.

Summary: I had a second-hand Magnum Les Paul clone that I bought for $50 in high school (they were about $150 new) that could run circles around this thing. The second worst musical investment I've probably ever made. (the first being a $40 keyboard)

Purchase: $489-American Musical Supply.
Pros: I like the pickups on the axe, and the light body, but mostly the NECK!!!!!!There is nothing I like more than a wizard neck. and get a tremolo stabilizer in there and whammy away!
Cons: I don't like the feedback on the pickups, especially the single coil, and the tone knob doesn't have as much effect as i would like.
Quality: It is put together well, with responsive pickups, with a great warm sound.

Summary: I definitely got my moneys worth. I love the axe! Get a tremolo stabilizer in there and BOOM its an awesome axe, or if you like higher quality guitars, get it and beat the s*** out of it. You'll love it.
