On 2003-12-14, Chris gave this Alvarez Acoustic Guitar a 5...(6875)
Purchase: I have a local music shop near where I live that has just about every guitar you could possibly want, and whats great is it's an independant store so the sales staff knows what they are doing and they put a lot of pride in helping musicians, cause they are all working musicians like me. I was in one day looking for a new acoustic and played just about everything I could put my hands on...Martins, Taylors, Takamines, Guilds, Ibanez's, Fenders, Tacomas...I tried out everything. Anyways I played this guitar and kept coming back to it. Payed 679.99 for the guitar and the guys threw in a case as a promotion...I think the case is normally $79.00 or so. Then I had a Fishman Matrix Pickup installed (150.00 total) and this guitar screams!
Pros: Just about everything. It has a warm rich tone from the Solid Rosewood Back and Sides, and a nice crisp balance from the Solid Spruce Top. It plays like a dream, smooth thin neck profile, and I put Daddario EXP Mediums on the guitar for a nice rich warm sound. And the lifetime warranty definitely makes me feel like I'll be owning this Alvarez forever, just like the other Alvarez's I own.
Cons: I kinda wish Alvarez would make a Masterworks guitar in the Alvarez line with the Yairi Bridge System...becuase I think that'd the an awesome value for a guitar. But then again that is scraping the absolute bottom of the barrel for something. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS GUITAR!!!
Quality: Perfect. No finish flaws, nothing odd about the fretboard, no pulling on the top. I actually played a show where one of the guys in the openning band knocked it right off the stage...the guitar is just fine...these are built to last.
Summary: Buy one of these and you will not be unhappy. There is no guitar under $1000 that can beat this. These are absolute treasures!
