Tommy Angelo's VDO Guitar Hero Instructionals Review: Michael Schenker and Steve Vai - Lessons 1 & 4

Purchase: I picked the videos up on the internet via www.guitar9.com. The videos cost $24.95 each. I bought the videos so I could learn to play "For the Love of God", "Tender Surrender", "Captain Nemo" by Steve Vai and Michael Schenker respectively. Also, to pick up some insight on their styles. Which is the premise of the videos. Use these to help you formulate YOUR style.

What I Like About This Tommy Angelo's VDO Guitar Hero Instructionals Michael Schenker and Steve Vai - Lessons 1 & 4: What I like about the videos, aside from the fact that they are note for note transcriptions. Is the fact that Tommy Angelo takes you through the songs step by step. - The CD times are on the screen for the particular part that is being played. So you can cue up your CD and play along. - 2 camera angles. Focusing on the fretboard and the other focusing on the picking hand. Also an added screen, when Tommy employs the use of the "Bad Horsie" wah on the Steve Vai video. - For the Vai video Tommy uses an Ibanez Jem just like Vai's. For the Schenker video he uses a Black Flying V. Nice touch. - The videos come with an accompanying tab booklet (8 1/2" x 11"). - There are also videos available for SRV and Van Halen styles.

What I Do NOT Like About The Tommy Angelo's VDO Guitar Hero Instructionals Michael Schenker and Steve Vai - Lessons 1 & 4: My only complaint, or should I say critique is that you never see Tommy's face. He just jumps right in to the lesson. Perhaps in his next video he could introduce himself. Other than that the videos were well made and to the point.

Review Summary: I've bought and checked out a lot of videos from REH, DCI, HOT LICKS, METAL METHOD, Rusty Cooley's SHRED GUITAR MANIFESTO, and SPEED KILLS by Michael Angelo. The Tommy Angelo video series are equal to if not better than some of the videos listed. The reason being, it's not a lesson with bunch of licks. The videos actually teach you "complete songs" note for note along with all the "stylistic" elements for that particular artists style. Well worth the $24.95. Believe me, you'll get more out of these videos than you will the $50 videos from your favorite artists.
