On 2003-12-26, Alex Woodgate gave this Tanglewood Electric Guitar a 4...(7138)
Purchase: i bought this guitar from my local guitar shop about 2 years ago for 100 pounds. i bought it as a guitar to learn on, as i had already played the acoustic and wanted to move on.
Pros: At first, i didnt like the action at all, as i thought that the strings were too tense, but the switched onto a pair of ernie ball super slinky's and it was great. on the bridge pickup you get a great rock tone, and on the neck, a very nice clean funk one. also, the neck length and width is perfect to start on.
Cons: The tremelo arm just flopped about uselessly after a bit of use, so i no longer use it or indeed know where it is. on the bridge pickup, the clean tone is rather harsh and coarse. with the tone controls, there seems to be no mid range, you either have to have a high treble or high bass tone. also, the pickups generate a lot of buzzing, though the feedback is low
Quality: high quality costruction of the body and neck, everything stays in the same place perfectly. however, the nut is too high to make soloing easy, and as i mentioned, the tremelo arm broke after a while.
but generally excellent
Summary: as a beginners guitar, this is fantastic, it lets you get a feel of an electric guitar, and lets you start to solo quite profficiently. it would be no good as a guitar to upgrase into your second, as there are to many small things that would need to be put right.
however a great guitar to start, and it looks GREAT!
