Purchase: I paid $45 at a used gear place as it sounded OK in the store (like most gear)
Pros: Nice yellow box...hard to misplace
Cons: It sucks ALL the bottom out of your guitar sound, leaving only a raspy, thin 80's vacuum cleaner tone
Quality: Built like a tank...sadly Summary: Waste of $45. For overdrive, the Maxon OD 808 is far superior and worth the extra cash.

Purchase: I bought this today for 35 pound from a local guitar shop after looking for something to boost the gain on my marshall.
Pros: i recentlly boug a marshall dfx100 solid state amp but i found the o/d not good enough for rhythm. i use ALOT of gain too play my style of playing (alot of shredding) and at first when trying this pedal i thought it was pretty crap on its own because it wasnt heavy enough. it sounded good for blues and light rock though. then i put on the marshall o/d with the pedal and i thought it was amazing. i bought it straight away after that. The pedal consists of a gain knob, tone knob and level knob. The colour of the pedal is nice and subtle as well.
Cons: nothing at all.
Quality: absolutely outstanding. ive never used a BOSS pedal that doesnt feel like its indestructable (apart from the v wah that thing is really shit!) Summary: best o/d pedal ive ever played, bluesy sounds on its own then chuck on ur marshall o/d and you get the zakk wylde spectacular gain and tone sound. brilliant pedal and used by john 5 and zakk wylde.

Purchase: I found the SD-1 on the Flying Pig website. A stonkingly good price at £33.01. I wanted an overdrive pedal to add to my marshall MGDFX 50.
Pros: It has some nice sounds on the clean channel, more of a light distortion, its certainly not for the Nu-Metallers. It gives the overdrive a kick up the ass. The controls are simple for a beginner, but for those who want some different overdrive sounds, you can twiddle the tone knob. Finally, a stompbox which doesnt make a clicking noise when witching on and off.
Cons: For me, it doesnt give as strong a drive sound on the clean channel as i would have hoped. Apart from that its a really nice stompbox.
Quality: BOSS quality design, nice metal casing. Ive dropped quite a few times and its not even made a dent. This will certainly last for an eternity. Summary: If your a classic rocker, use light amp overdrive, and then for the solo stomp and feel the power. Jazz players will get a nice light fuzz on the clean channel. This is not a pedal to be used on its own. It complements any effect it is paired to. The only way to see if you like it is to try it out in a shop.
