Yamaha Review: SA50

Yamaha Electric Guitars

History:

Purchase: Bought it from a private seller on Ebay. Paid $235. I bought it because the photos on ebay were stunning and it's exactly the kind of guitar I wanted

What I Like About This Yamaha SA50: It's a 335 clone made in 1970. It has highly figured flamed maple with an amber color that really shows the wood grain.

What I Do NOT Like About The Yamaha SA50: It had some problems with the pots and switches, but the seller agreed to help pay for the repairs. Took it to a good tech who soon had it working great.

Yamaha SA50 Quality Rating: This was made back when the big companies like Gibson and Fender were having to file law suits against companies like Yamaha for copying their designs too closely. The craftsmanship is outstanding.

Review Summary: As a teenager in 1970 I could not have afforded a quality guitar like this one. I was very pleased to be able to buy such a quality instrument for a good price, that came from my era.

Rating of this Yamaha product: 4

Yamaha Pacifica 112 - I have long wanted a Fender Stratocaster with a natural wood body. In order to get one, I would have to pay at least $500 for a Mexican 70s reissue (that's the cheapest version that has the natural finish). Until I can buy one, this Pacifica provides...

Yamaha BEX-4 F-Hole Semi-Hollow - As wooden-bridged, hollow basses go, this one is about as player-friendly as you are likely to find. Then there's that tone. This is not primarily a thud bass [altho you can dial up some of that]. This ax is a very "woody" voiced critter, but...

Yamaha Pacifica 112J - Not too many of these guitars i see for resale...simply do an ebay search for them and you will get a handful of pacifica guitars 112J , (even less hits for the upper models such 412J, 612J model)...compared to too many hits for the fender squiers( w...

Yamaha RBX765A - I love this bass guitar. It's design suits me and my playing style better than any I have ever used and it's appearance is both elegant and just plain cool. I have found that since I have begun playing this bass, I do not care for the feel of any o...

Yamaha SE700HE - This SE line of Yamaha guitars had several models from the se150 up to the se1000. If you can find a se700HE or se1000 that is not damaged, you need to buy it. I play mine through a Roland Jazz Chorus amp. The sound is to die for. This is a g...

Yamaha P120 - Overall, the P120 is a good instrument for the performing keyboardist who doesn't like a whole lot of bells and whistles that add weight and confusion to the instrument. The P120's purpose is simple: to create a great playing interface that enables t...

Yamaha DTXpress (module only) - A great unit with a ton of nice features. I am a big fan. The only limitation is the lack of more than one dual zone pad trigger inputs. I'd recommend this unit to everyone. But like I said, for my personal taste, the pads Yamaha sells this with...
