Purchase: I was given this guitar from a friend. He bought it in hopes of being a "guitar hero", but found it harder than he thought. Pros: Nice tone and surprising quality. You get a nice from the humbucking pickups, although I chose to replace them with some spare vintage style Gibson pickups I had around. The guitar I have has the sunburst design and it is quite nice. You can't get a Les Paul style guitar (made by a division of Gibson none the less) for the price (even though I did not buy mine) any better. Cons: The tuners are crap. They don't stay tuned and they are not at all adjustable. I replaced them with a set of Grovers. Also the 3 position switch had to be replaced, but it did not facilitate a standard three position. I had to peel of the Les Paul style ring around switch and mount it side to side. It actually works and it is rigged so that when the switch is toggled it is in the direction of the pickup that it is now using. Quality: See "Please describe what you like about the unit:" Review Summary: Nice guitar, not bad for a beginner. If you are going to buy a guitar and you don't have a lot of dough to spend this is a good guitar. Just remember to replace the tuners!! Purchase: Purchased it form Musicians Friend for $150 (US) as a my first guitar. I had to share my brothers Fender American Strat and I wanted a Paul, but was low on cash Pros: It is an inexpensive guitar that gives you that Les Paul tone. It's got a fast neck and nice string action. It comes stock 9's, but I prefger the sound and feel of D'Addario XL 10's. It's similiar to the guitars that bands that I like use, so I was stoked to get this guitar. It's fallen a few times and it's still working as usuall. Cons: There are a few problems with it. The tuners aren't that great. I have to retune after every song. I have also had a little trouble with the input jack. The washers fell off and I had to replace them. There is a slight hum. I believe it is realted to the type of pickup selsctor that is used.
The guitar tends to fall out of my strap, but that was nothing thata straplock couldn't solve. Quality: It's made in Korea. The guitar has a nice ebony finish. I like the neck binding it has good construction and feel. It was what I was expecting for $150. Review Summary: Overall it is a good begginner guitar if your looking for the LP tone. I got what I expected for $150. If you want the LP tone and have the money I would reccomend getting a better model like the standard or custom. Purchase: I got this guitar from an individual not a store. I payed about 60 bucks for it, because it was used and because it wasn't in very good condition. The reason i bought it was because my squire strat was a huge piece of crap. Pros: there are a few things i like about this guitar. 1, it was really cheap. 2 it has more sustain than my squire strat. The other is if you are hard on this instrument it doesn't really matter because it is fairly tough and you arn't loosing anything special if you trash it.
Cons: It doesn't stay in tune for more than a half an hour. It doesn't have very good sound and the pickups buzz so much it would make you wish you were deaf.
Quality: As i said before the construction is fairly good. The quality isnt bad for a guitar with a list price of about 170 bucks. Review Summary: This isn't a bad deal for a first guitar, because you dont know if you'll stick with it, but if you already play dont waste you're money. Go for a real gibson. They're the best. I just bought an SG supreme a few day's ago and i love it. On 2002-12-06, Dan rated this Epiphone Special a 4...(3269)
Purchase: Bought on ebay for $125 Pros: This guitar is well made and has excellent electronics. It is well balances and easy to play. Fast action. Cons: The guitar doesn't stay in turn very long. I have to tune it just about every day. Could be me?? Quality: The Special is well made and has a lot of quality for the price you pay. It has a lot of the features of much more expensive guitars. Review Summary: For the price you can't beat it. If you are looking for a quality guitar for little money, this is the one you are looking for. It has all you need to put out some fine sounding vibes. On 2002-12-03, D. Marvin rated this Epiphone Special a 4...(3209)
Purchase: Won this Guitar at an ebay auction for $125 Pros: This is a well made guitar for the price. Quality pickups and the neck seems to be very well built. It has good balance and is easy to play. I will keep this guitar for a long time. It will probably out last me! Cons: The guitar has to be tuned a lot. I usually have to tune it before I practice every day. Also I did have a little probelm with where the cord plugs in but it was an easy fix, just a bent connector. Quality: You know, for the price I don't think you can find a better made guitar. It is well made and plays fine. Just be sure you have a quick tuner available. I surely would purchase this guitar again now that I have owned one. Review Summary: I really like this guitar. Sure, it's not what I'd play if I had loads of cash. But for what I paid, it is great! Perfect for the musician on a budget. On 2002-08-28, Adrian Poveda rated this Epiphone Special a 4...(2629)
Purchase: I bought it from a friend at about $180 (a pretty good deal if you ask me) Pros: It's really comfortable, it's got a fat tone and a lot of sustain. sounds great live
I know it's supposed to be a cheap guitar but i think it works great.
Cons: can be a little bassy, you know, the low tones are predominant but that sounds good with distortion.
I use a boss ds-2 and it rocks.
Quality: Haven't found any major flaw in it Review Summary: I like it, it's not the best guitar in the world but works great if you don't have $2000. Even if you have $2000 it should be on your stack. |
