Purchase: I bought my bass in 1997 at a local record store (Electric Fetus) that "sidelined" the Danelectro musical line. I wanted a short-scale bass because they play fast and they're fun. I got a pretty good price markdown and ended up paying about $200.
Pros: The Danelectro Longhorn is light and well balanced. The bass plays fast and it is fun to play. It also has nice tone range from bass to treble. It is especially fun playing funky stuff when you're looking for a little 'bite' to the tone. And it's easy to fret all the way up the neck of the two full octaves.
Cons: The bridge the bass comes with is non-adjustable, so you cannot fine tune the strings.
Quality: The bass was well made. I did not have to make any adjustments at purchase. I have had the bass for seven years now and except for a few truss-rod/action adjustments I have had no problems with deteriorating hardware or sound quality.

Summary: The Danelectro Longhorn Bass is a lot of bass for the money. It is also an ideal bass for a younger/smaller person or female because it is small and light. It is a fantastic beginner's bass but also a lot of fun for a seasoned bassist. I rate it a 9 out of 10 which is 4.5 which I will round out to 5.

Purchase: I bought this bass, only because of the look. I paid it only 450 euros (about 500 $)In a local store here in France.
Pros: I like this amazing look, witht the two horns first. Then i discover the small size of this guitar, very easy to carry! And last but not least, it is really cool to play, very light weight.
Cons: I don't like the quality in general, when you look closer the guitar it seems cheap! A technical detail: you haven't got a place to put your thumb if you're playing with fingers. And last thing the sound is fun but very ...Danelectro, i mean with a lot of medium sounds and métallic sounds too. So it is not a bass for all kind of music, to me it's a typically pop bass, not for other kind of style.
Quality: It's a cheap bass, with cheap materials, but it's look very great the vernish and paints are really good, it's not the case for metallic pieces! But nevertheless its sound great for pop.

Summary: Good pop bass, with a great look. Very easy to play and to carry because of the size of it. But, to me this is a bass you buy for this typical sound and look. It shouldn't be use as a main Bass, it's not versatile bass guitar.
