Paiste Review: 402 18" Crash Ride and 13" Hi Hats

Paiste Drums Percussion

History:

Purchase: I purchased these as a set, new off ebay for about £60. I had played the 14" hats 16" crash and 20" ride before and was pleasantly surprised, so decided to buy these when i saw them come up cheap on ebay.

What I Like About This Paiste 402 18" Crash Ride and 13" Hi Hats: Well for starters they have a great look-very silvery. The hi -hats have a nice sharp ,clean chick sound and when open they make a nice glassy washy noise. The crash/ride is VERY, VERY loud when crashed,it makes my ears ring! Again it has a silvery crash sound, very edgy.

What I Do NOT Like About The Paiste 402 18" Crash Ride and 13" Hi Hats: The crash/ride;when riding there are lots of overtones and the beats can get lost in the wash of the cymbal which i really dont like. The cymbal is very heavy and thick which means that it also has a long sustain and the striking can build up to make a horrid, messy noise. Its weight also means that it chews your sticks up. The bell has a bright ping sound though. The hi-hats are prone to air-locking and making no sound at all.

Paiste 402 18" Crash Ride and 13" Hi Hats Quality Rating: The quality is paiste quality, fine, strong solid constuction. These cymbals are going to last a long time but i dont know about my sticks!

Review Summary: I was disapointed by these cymbals at first, but now i have learnt to work with and make the most of them. But overall i would say do not buy these cymbals-save your money for something better, it will be worth it in the long run.
