ESP Review: F-207

ESP Electric Guitars

History:

Purchase: I always thought the F shape was cool, and I always wanted to own a 7-string so I could pull off alot of the music I like (some of Morbid Angel's songs in particular).

What I Like About This ESP F-207: Other than the styling - nothing.

What I Do NOT Like About The ESP F-207: Other than the styling - everything.

ESP F-207 Quality Rating: The guitar sounds loud and fat unplugged, but the stock pickups are junk, pure and simple. I was under the impression that EMG made great pickups, but the HZ's should have never been released. They sound like mud, the neck pickup has almost no output at all. Good luck getting any harmonics out of this guitar, either. Appartently the pickups aren't the only thing that are sonically dead about this guitar. I swapped out the bridge pickup with a DiMarzio Evolution - which had to be modified to fit the deep, rectangular cavity left by the HZ. This didn't even help as much as it should have. It still sounds like mud, all mids, no highs.

Review Summary: This guitar is the reason why I'll never buy anything music related on blind faith ever again. This guitar is a novelty, and should be considered as such, nothing more. Save your money and buy an Ibanez or a Carvin.

ESP F-300FM - I've picked up a few Fenders & Ibanez guitars (+£1200) in shops and found they just dont compare. ESPs are way ahead in sound and action. The guys at the store were *very* annoyed that I'd just bought their favourite guitar they had in the shop. A...

ESP LTD EX-351D - This was my second guitar and it's served me well, but as I expand my playing more I'm finding this guitar quite limiting. Despite crappy pickups, it sounds decent for what you pay for. It looks great, but looking back, one shouldnt buy guitars based...

ESP LTD Bass - The ESP Ltd is a bass when you first see it you can't help but go and take it off the wall and bust a few moves on. It's a great bass for beginners as well as expert bassists. I figured if an ESP is good enough for James Hetfield (Metallica) it's goo...
