Purchase: I bought the bass as part of a package from an online music store (the BC300 + a 20w stagg amp) for £189
Pros: When I bought the bass I was completely new to bass playing so when it came to finding & buying a bass, I pretty much went on looks (what do you expect from a wannabe rocker) & that’s the first thing I like about the bass, its well proportioned (the body doesn’t look to big for the fretboard/head, & visa versa) & the black colour gave it a commanding look.
As I progressed with my bass playing, trying out different techniques, I liked the fact the bass could adapt well for both slap & pick & being a tall person I found the size of the bass (a full 24 frets) was perfect for me (small people on the migit side will probably find it a bit big though).
Cons: Because I now have a wider knowledge & understanding of playing bass, i've found that there are a couple of things with the BC3000 that people will notice after a while.
First off, the strings didn't have that much clearance against the fretboard at the top, so when I played the lower notes (especially on the E string) it would occasionally vibrate against metal separators. It wasn't picked up on the amp so wasn't a major issue, but some people may find it annoying.
& also, playing the E & A string made the other 2 strings vibrate to a point when a very gentle humming was playing underneath the actual notes being played (hopefully that made sense).
Quality: I did have to tighten a few loose screws on the bass when I got it which makes me think that the bass wasn't put together with a great amount of care, although having said that, it has taken a few good knocks & its lasted me over a year without falling apart, which is always a good sign.
Its also relatively light so for beginners wanting to throw it about as if they were performing at Wembley stadium (come on, you know you have the same dream) Summary: Some people may find it a bit of a "mar-mite" bass, your either going to love it or hate it.
Overall, its perfect for beginners, especially if you buy the package with the amp (20w amp for a beginner package is almost unheard of) but as you progress with your playing, you'll begin to notice your out-growing the bass, but hey, you can't run before you can walk & progressing stage by stage is the best way to go if you want to become the next bass legend.
A good price for a good bass.

Purchase: I bought this from eBay for £89 + P+P
Pros: Very light weight, Excelent colour (purple) and the fact it has 24 frets.
Cons: The construction and the fact that it dents / chips rather easily.
Quality: Poorly put together.
Action was far too high, and the volume/tone pots and the Input both came loose.
Luckily I know how to fix these things but if someone else who didnt know howto this could cost them an extra £30 or to get it correct professionally. Summary: A really nice bass if you know how to set it up yourself and you can live with dents/chips otherwise is a bit of a problem.

Purchase: Got this from Duck Son And Pinker in Gloucester with an amplifier and a bag, and a strap, and a lead and a useless pitch pipe all for £179.
Pros: It is a good weight. Plays quite well, stays in tune. Don't bother trying to tune it with the pitch pipe though. Body shape is nice but nothing special. The amplifier is surprisingly good. It has a 24 fret neck, but who gets that high on bass?
Cons: The headstock is a silly shape, but i've seen worse. The middle control knob came loose, but it's still intact. A washer rattles around underneath one of the string posts, and the pickups aren't put in very well (You can push them in) and the wiring is sub-standard. But none of your friends will be amazed at a Stagg, it's like showing them an Encore or a Conrad. The sound is not bad, very standard, nothing special. Its quite precise but if you want pure bass tones look elsewhere.
Quality: Construction isn't actually that bad. The body isn't too heavy, and the headstock is quite well balanced. I have had the same strigns on it nearly a year and they always stay in tune. I've banged it against the wall a couple times and it's fine. Summary: This guitar is an inadvertant mistake. Not bad for a beginner, but there are others in the same price range which can last you forever; such as the Ibanez GSR whatever. Or even a Squier P-Bass is more worthwhile. But, I suppose your getting a gig bag and amp, so it's half-worth it.

Purchase: I purchased the stagg bass from an ebay auction for £87 for a beginning bass.
Pros: The four strings are well spaced and is very simple to use for a beginner. As I started with a plectrum the bass was ideal - it was quite aggressive and easy to play with a pick. It looks pretty good and the colour (purple) was really suited.
Cons: As it is a cheap begginer bass it lacks a lot of tone and has a lot of fuzzing on the first two frets of each string and from the 8th fret to the 13th frets on each string.
The layout of the pickouts also was annoying. The neck was not very well built as it get getting out of shape and reverting to bad fuzzing.
Quality: Cheaply manufactured, but still looks pretty good. Good for a beginner, but someone with experience it is a bit tacky and cheap. The input jack went within a month! Two strings stretched in 5 months! Summary: In summary I find the stagg BC300 to a brilliant bass for the beginner who wants to get to grips with bass playing - I wouldn't have purchased a different on to start with. However, if you have already got a bass or guitar go for something more expensive and better built.

Purchase: This is my first bass. It's shop-bought for around £200, thats with an amp and leads etc included.
Pros: I think this is a perfect bass for beginners and especially girls, as the neck is nice and thin, and the frets are smaller than on the average bass.
I've found it much easier to play than a P-bass.
Cons: The only thing I don't like is the fact that I can't find an allen key small enough to raise the action.
Quality: It's made realy well (in taiwan), and it can take loads of knocking. I'm constantly hitting against walls and stuff, and so far there's no dents. Summary: I'm really glad I chose the bass, as it's the perfect size for my little hands. I would recommend it to other small-handed people.
Also, I got it in black, and it looks awesome!

Purchase: i bought this from my local PMT about a year and a half ago i paid 200 with big amp an leads an gig bag
Pros: i like the sunburst colour and its can take afew knocks an doesnt damge easy! thats about it! i been playing guitar/bass for bout 4 years now
Cons: this bass is not worth the money you may think its good for the money and its not! i have alot of problems with it an there are alot of better basses around the same price range that are actually good
Quality: the quality is very poor ok you dont expect the best bass but its is joke, the strings are really high off the fretboard it has a constant humming noise when you play! do not buy this bass !!!!!!!!!! Summary: yup dont buy it at all its rubish! its a waste of money!
