History:
Purchase: This guitar was purchased for $499.00 at The String Shoppe in Columbus, OH. This was the second guitar I've purchased from them and they don't just take the thing off the wall and say "See ya!" They polished and dusted the body, put fretboard conditioner on, and tuned it. Great customer service.
What I Like About This Epiphone Les Paul Standard: This is my 4th Epiphone in the past year that I've purchased. I've started with a verrrry basic Gig Rig, went to a LP Special II, then a Les Paul 100, and now to the Les Paul Standard. Each one has been a huge leap up from the previous model (I now feel "worthy" to play this one!). It's about as close to a real honest to goodness Les Paul without spending an additional $1500.00. This model is Ebony with a set neck, creme binding, and chrome humbuckers. I've always been a sucker for Les Pauls, could be my interest in Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Kiss, etc. The guitarists in these bands all favor Les Pauls. The humbuckers really crank and from the weight of the guitar you can just tell it's well put together. It just feels solid slung around your neck!
What I Do NOT Like About The Epiphone Les Paul Standard: Being Ebony the body shows fingerprints; but who cares! Sound and playability wise, this is a suh-weeet axe!
Epiphone Les Paul Standard Quality Rating: The construction on this guitar is flawless. The binding is perfect and the thing just flat out looks sharp. If only I could play as well as it looks! If you don't have an additional $1000.00, get this over the full fledged Gibson Les Paul. I've said this is the "last guitar" I'll need for awhile. We'll see how long that thinking lasts.
Review Summary: Lots of bang for the buck. A well made guitar that sounds excellent and plays well.
