For wacky sci-fi tones, this is impossible to beat. It can really nail the Star Trek "phasor" gun type of vibe, interestingly enough. These pedals were made from 1984 to 2001, so the used market is the only way to go. I have seen them on the classifieds for right around $65 or so. The used ones from Japan are easily identified as they have a black label and sometimes fetch more money than the made in Taiwan ones do. If you just need a simple phaser for a few parts this will probably work for you. It's a boss so it's pretty much impossible to break and it's easily replaceable. The older ph1 is a much better sound if you can find one and beyond that there are tons of other phasers with more options and better sounds. All in all it's pretty cool its not something you'll need to use all the time ,but when you do need it its good to have one.And maybe it could be something everybodies looking for in a few years.Never know on something like this, it's totally a personal decision.
