Carvin DC127T Reviews 5

I purchased my Carvin DC127T from the Carvin Custom Shop in San Diego, California. Carvin's can only be purchased directly from the Carvin factory or from one of their retail stores in Southern California. I had my Carvin totally custom built for me to my specifications at a cost including hard shell case for $922.00. The build time was four weeks. I received my new guitar only 29 days after placing the order. I purchased the Carvin because I had a number of opportunities to play different models in their Covina, California store. They truly are remarkable instruments of the highest possible quality and they play and sound spectacular.

Their are a number of things I really like about the guitar. First, it is incredibly versatile. It has two Allen Holdsworth signature humbucking pickups with separate volume and tone controls for each pickup plus two coil splitters and a phase swithch to go along with the three-way pickup selector. Secondly, the neck is incredibly fast with very light action. It has a nearly flat 15" radius on the smoothest black ebony fingerboard I've ever seen. The neck is wide, but thin and extremely comfortable. The Wilkinson-Carvin tremolo is as good as a tremolo gets. No matter how hard you use it, the guitar stays in perfect tune. This is partially also a benefit of the Sperzel locking tuners. The build and finish quality rival any custom shop guitar made today. It is every bit as well constructed as a PRS and better than most Gibsons or Fender. The tone and volume pots are the most linear and smooth pots I've ever had the pleasure to use. Even minute adjustments are easily heard. The sustain is unbelievable. This is due to the maple neck-through-body construction with alder wings.

There is absolutely nothing that I dislike about this guitar. I have ten other guitars including Stratocasters, Telecasters, even a D'Angelico archtop yet my Carvin is without a doubt the best of the bunch. I absolutely love this guitar.

I've touched on the high quality of fit and finish earlier. It truly is some of the best I have ever seen. My guitar is finished in Sea Foam Green, with black hardware and abalone dots on the 24 fret ebony fingerboard. I honestly don't think you can buy a better guitar at any price.

Everything about dealing with Carvin has been exemplary. The salesman I spoke to, Scott, took all the time I needed to build the guitar the way I wanted it. He listened, offered great suggestions and went out of his way to make sure I would be happy with my purchase. If you decide to buy a Carvin guitar, call Scott. You'll be glad you did.
