On 2006-09-08, Shawn rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 5...(12513) History: I started playing guitar when I was twelve, so that is about 16 years of playing time. I have played in numerous bands in that time, mostly hard rock/metal.
Purchase: I went to Guitar Center in Chattanooga, TN about three weeks ago looking for a Schecter, because I have heard that they have great bottom end. I saw the Epiphone Les Paul Standard for $380, and I couldn't pass it up. I plugged both guitars up in the store, and the Les Paul blew the Schecter away. It sounds great distorted or clean, and I have never heard better for the price. Pros: It feels great, not too heavy, not too light. The tone is awesome no matter what you are playing through, and you can hit a pinch harmonic on any fret. The Epiphone pickups that come in the guitar sound great, and the action is perfect. I got the black one, but they have about ten different colors, and they all look awesome.
Cons: there isn't really anything that I don't like about this guitar, but I could do without the pickguard. Quality: This guitar is built with great quality. It was made in China, which is usually a turnoff for me, but not this time. Review Summary: This has to be the best guitar you can buy for the money. I would recommend this guitar for anyone. Why spend $1200 for a gibson when you can get the same quality for $400? On 2005-10-29, Andy D. rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 3...(11209) History: Im 15 i've been playing for 3 years. In a rock band. : ilike Classic Rock, blues, rock, blue grass, rock n roll, and jazz. i play about 3 or more hours a day.
Purchase: Guitar center, got a good deal for about $430.00usd Pros: Its a good guitar, its has nice tone and versitility to play many differnt styles of music.stays in tune rather well. its good for the price, but i wouldnt buy one again , id just save that money for a better guitar. Cons: Well it sounds pretty generic, through any amp basically,. Definetly get new pick ups. Quality: Inotation was bad from the day i bought it had to be fixed and the pickups were at the wrong level , and the frets on mine wore really fast. Review Summary: I'd say if you really want a les paul and you dont have a spare $1000. get this guitar because it kicks ass, but you need new pick ups , the stock ones are lame. especially on rythm . But yeha !

Purchase: I got this guitar at Guitar Center in Lawrenceville, GA. I bought it because I love the look and feel of a solid Les Paul, and I was sick of the strat and tele bodies. I payed $600. They threw in a gig bag, new strings, strap locks, a strap, a cable, and picks. So it was a great deal. Pros: It sounds amazing. Whats not to love about this guitar? It is sooooo beautiful. The trapezoid inlays are beautiful. It is such a good-sounding guitar. A welcome escape from the sharp sounding strat. The pickups are fine, but I am changing them and getting Gibson BurstBucker Pros. I don't really need to, these are fine, i just want to. It is a Les Paul, what can I say. Cons: NOTHING IS BAD. Quality: It is very new, just got to the store from the factory like a month ago. It is a rock. I played it with a Gibson, it wasn't as good, but it was close enough. Review Summary: FREAKIN AWESOME. Purchase: Christmas '04...Not sure how much was paid but im almost 100% sure it was $560 Canadian, at Avenue Guitars in Edmonton Pros: I like almost everything about this guitar. The finish is really amazing (Trans Amber) and its weight is absolutely perfect. Not too heavy, like some Les Pauls i've played, but not too light that it feels like its a toy. The neck is also perfect (for me), it feels so natural in my hand. I really like how its consrtucted too, set neck into a really chunky body and the carved top is so nice. The inlays are beautiful too, I've never seen pearl inlays like these. I guess the appropriate word to describe them would be "vivid". Frets are near perfect as well. Cons: There is not much that I don't like about this guitar, I don't like the pickguard so I took it off, It kind of seems out of place on the guitar. It leaves two small holes visible but you don't notice them, they are really tiny. Also, I'm not liking how the top strap button is screwed in. (the one above the neck) It is not exactly paralell with the neck, but on sort of an angle because its screwed into the arch. (Look at some Les Paul photos to see what I mean) This sometimes causes the strap to fall off while standing up, but hopefully you're fast enough and you can save the guitar before it hits the ground. This can be fixed by using strap locks. Quality: Construction and quality is almost top notch. This guitar compares to a Gibson very easily, I just don't know why people spend so much money on the Gibsons, when you could get an Epi thats the same quality, if not better, for not even half the price. Personally, I like the way the Epiphones feel better than Gibson. The guitar feels very solid, every once and a while you might have to tighten a few nuts and bolts (ex. input jack), if you have a correct size rachet or box wrench, then it will take all of 5 seconds out of your day. Besides, what guitar doesn't need a little tightening and maintanence now and then. Review Summary: This guitar overall, is a great deal. A REAL Les Paul (Remember, Les Paul is scripted on the headstock) for a price that everyone can afford. I know a lot of people complain about the weight, but its really oblivious to me. I think its because I play bass guitar in a band and I'm used to having a 10-pound bass hanging on my shoulder all the time. To make my Epi even better than it is though, my future plans include installing a Gibson Dirty Finger pick-up in the bridge position and replacing the pots with Gibson USA pots. Buy it. Purchase: I bought it at a local music store for 400 bucks. I bought it because I had heard good things about this guitar Pros: It has a incredible sound for a guitar of that price. It's also like playing a Gibson. Cons: I had to change the pick ups because they are not so great. I replaced them by seymour duncan and now the guitar sounds really perfect. The neck is a little bit big, but it's like all the Les Paul. Quality: It is built like a tank. The finish is beautiful. Review Summary: Seriously this is one of the best guitar you can buy with a small budget. You will maybe have to change the pickups if you want a better sound. That's a beautiful guitar, very similar to Gibson. On 2004-12-08, Adam rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 5...(10642)

Cons: the price i had to pay in the uk! Quality: Top Quality! Review Summary: i would recomend this guitar to anyone as it is a good hard sterdy guitar! Purchase: cheap as chips darlin! got in in me local guitar shoppee; a bargin at £299. Although mine was in the summer sale...the "ballpark" (acual quote) on one of these beasts is around £360 (thats around $700- for all ye Yanks). Pros: every onthe geetar slinger on the page will tell you it got great sustain, solid build ect....and all true but its soo much more than that. I'd go so far as to call old Les (dont ACTUALLY call it that...that would scare even me, ha) my soul mate...weve been through so much together ye see. but thats personal Cons: hmm, the melting point of the polybutane used on the scratchboard is 4 degrees less than that of the gibson les laul standard...well batton my hatches! yeah, theres no bad point springs to mind, tis sound (as a pound). Quality: safe as houses old boy. solid construction body, set neck is immovable, mahogany fingerboard is is fast and sweet, hmmm sweet.pickups are great, gibson spec humbuckers for grrreat tone. finish is a great, honey sunburst, brings out my eyes. Review Summary: Rock musician? stop deliberating, reguardless of style youll like it (unless your a pretentious gibson only player.that means YOU DANNY CANNON! Purchase: I bought this guitar at guitar center for roughly five hundered bucks. I utilize it in a garage band in PA.
Pros: I love the sound of this guitar, its tone basically destroys all aspects of my fellow band - mates ibanez. I love the action, its fast and like buddah.
positives -
low price
good sound
nice action
solid construction Cons: negatives -
crappy tuning keys (replace them!)
the jack fell off of mine, and i don't play aggressively Quality: It's built pretty solidly. Considering the amoung of abuse its been put through driving to shows (packed in my compact car) it has proved its resiliancy over and over. Unfortunatly the tuning keys are rather cheap. I replaced them and i recommed you do the same. One small tremor and you're out of tune. Review Summary: Overall, i love this guitar, im planning on buying either a gibson les paul studio or standard (nothing like the "real" thing). Even though im about to casually cast it aside, it has been there for most of my great moments in my band, and i will always be grateful to epiphone for making such a price friendly guitar that sounds so great. Purchase: I got this puppy for Christmas for only $350...NEW!!!!! shhhh cant tell ya where! lets just say i have a connection! :) Pros: ok down to buisness. i LOVE the flame maple top. the cherry sunburst really compliments the FMT. the pearl trapezoid inlays look cool. (actually theyre plastic. oh well they look the same) i like the 1-ply creme binding and accents. ONE BIG THING! i'm the type of guitarist who absolutely HATES, LOATHES, DISPISES whatever you wanna call it....Floyd Rose trems! UGH! i've tried 'em before and theyre such a hassle to restring with the locking nut and all that garbage. So the LP's stoptail works great for me! Cons: ok i hate the tuning keys! i replaced those IMMEADIATLY with so grovers. next, both pickups SUCK. i replaced the bridge with a Gibson Dirty Fingers and the neck w/ a Seymour Duncan '59. man! what a killer combo! next the pickguard had to go. it looked trashy and made it look "epiphonish". i dont know why, but i once i took it off it looks alot like the Gibson Strd. Plus you get to see more of the beautiful flame top. also, the pickup selector switch makes a echo when you switch from bridge to neck p-ups. its like the noise reverberates in the cavity? i dont know but i put in a whole new Gibson selector and...wow! no more echos! then the input jack cover (the little plastic sqaure around the jack) broke so i put on a Metal one so it wont break now. and the final touch, i put in two puch-pull volume pots so i can split the coils (the p'ups have to be 4-conductor...be shure to specify it for the seymour b/c the norm. '59 is 2 cond. the Gibson always is 4-cond) and get the Strat-like tone w/o the crappy strat. also its a little heavy but what do you expect with a mahagony gtr?!?!? Quality: the quality is great, aside from what i just listed under "dislikes" its a great bang for the buck. once you get everything done that i did to mine, im shure it will be almost as a good if not better than a gibson (considering the price $$$). lol. Review Summary: If you want Les Paul tone....DONT BUY THIS GUITAR! If you want Les Paul qauality, looks, and wont mind forking over some extra cash, than this guitar is for YOU! In all my guitar is worth about $900. If you arent crazy bout Pauls but are considering this gtr i wounldnt reccomend this to you. go buy some fancy Jackson or Fender! Purchase: I acquired this guitar through ebay for $350 in perfect new condition with its box from a nice person with quick shipping. Pros: What I like about this guitar the most would be the thick flamed maple cherry sunburst that resembles tiger stripes!. It is absolutley stunning. Then would come the rhythm pickup - it is best used for blues or jazz as it is very bassy and awesome for palm muting!I will stick up for epiphone and say that the tuners stay in tune for a good week but I play every day and what guitarist doesn't play and tweak his tuners all the time anyway? The tuners work great. Cons: What I dislike the most is the treble pickup.I own a Marshall 100MDFX and the treble pickup is barley audible, weak and with distortion it sounds very slightly overdriven.A replacement pickup should be taken into consideration when purchasing. The pickup switch broke quickly but the three dollars it takes to get a better one won't burn a hole in my pocket!I also dislike the high action. It isn't too high but it is just enough to make it uncomfortable to play. This can also be fixed cheaply. Quality: The quality on the outside of mine was really sweet!I hear that this is inconsistent. The inside was ok and had wood shavings loose.Nothing big.Nice medium weight.Frets are even and neck is straight.Paint job quality was perfect! Review Summary: This is definitley a great invesment and a good guitar for the money. They can be inconsistent so I suggest trying one out or purchasing from a place with a photo of the actual guitar itself instead of a stock photo. This is highly recommended as something to invest in. Purchase: I bought this guitar at white house of music in wisconsin for about 550$. I bought this guitar because i liked the neck being attached to the body and also the not to fat feeling the neck had. Also for the price this guitar sounds excellent on the distortion channel without and buzz or unwanted feeback. Pros: I like the great sound it gives from the distortion channel, the great feel of the neck, and also the weight. It isnt as heavy as a regular las paul(much lighter). Also it has a great cherry burst finish that makes it look like a gibson. Cons: The only thing that was bad with it was that strap holders were very loose and stripped immediatley after purchase but the store i bought it from fixed that rigth away and i have had no further problems with that. Quality: The quality is great for being an epiphone. It isnt as high quality as a gibson but it is still put together very nicely and has no great great defects except for the strap holders. Review Summary: Overall a great guitar with a great sound and a great price that is almost as good as a gibson. I highly recomend purcahsing this because it looks great sounds great and just wont let you down. On 2004-07-01, Sam Hall rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 4...(9290)
Purchase: I purchased it from MusicansFriend.com for $550. I have a LP Speacial and wanted to get a carved top LP. Pros: I like the Heritage Cherryburst finish. It has one blemminsh on the cut out. The electronics are great. I love the range of sounds I can get out of it. I play mostly alternative music so I mostly use the bridge pickup. The guitar has amazing sustain. IT has a fast neck and has good intonation. Cons: The frets on the guitar ar placed at a sligth angle on the fretboard. So the side fo the frets closest to the bridge are raised up a little. It doesn't affect teh playability though. Quality: Overall the quality of the unit is good. The only issue I have is the frets which I mentioned earlier. It was made in China Review Summary: This is an excellent guitar. I've played many Gibson Standards and they sound just the same as the Epiphone models. The only reason to get a Gibson LP is just to have it for the name. If anything were to happen to this guitar I would replace it without hesitation. Purchase: I got this guitar for Christmas '03 brand new outta the box for #350! (i have a friend that works at the Guitar Center and he got me a discount :)shhh!) Here it is June '04 and i have never had a prob. w/ her. Pros: i like the set neck and frets (i dont know what size they are?). also the Heritage Cherry Sunburst is beautifully complemented w/ a flamed maple top. i'm not the type of guy who is into the Flyod Rose's or locking nuts....it's too confusing to restring it, thats why i like the simplicity of the tune-o-matic and stop tail. Cons: i dont like how there isnt a body cut away (the feel of strats). at first i thought the "burstbuckers" were the ****, but after i dropped in a Gibson Dirty Fingers in the bridge and Seymour Duncan '59 model in the neck i realized they were aweful. also, the vintage plastic tuners are cheep..i just put on some new Boomers and like 5 minutes later after tuning, i realized D string had already slipped outta tune, so i put some Sperzel Locking tuners on her and BOOM! i havent had to tune for about 2 weeks!!! and for cosmetics, i put on a "Standard" truss rod cover...just to make it look more "authentic Gibson". Quality: very durable. except for the tuners, i havent had any problems at all. i giged with her at my schools Band Banquet (sorta like Battle of the Bands) and we won first place! Call it luck, but i think i was all due to my trusty Epiphone LP!! Purchase: My dad bought me this for christmas and he bought it from musicians friend for 599$ Pros: Great guitar I love the humbuckers that come with it. It gives me that raw distorted rock sound that I like. This guitar is also capable of blues which I also like to play. Aside from the sound it looks awesom. The classic chrome hardware and pearloid trapeziod inlay are the best. I have it Heritage Cherry suunburst finish.
Oh yeah and it says gibson on the headstock that makes me feel cool. Cons: really the only thing I don't like is the buzzing noise that comes from the bottom E string. Weight might be a problem for you but not for me. Quality: All around good construction exept for the three way selector switch it went all loose and crooked on me a month into owning it.
It has a couple chips out of it because the strap fell of and I droped on the kitchen floor I nearly had a heart attack. Review Summary: I recommend this guitar to anyone who plays hard rock like ac/dc led zeppelin etc.I feel like a rockstar with this guitar and if you buy it you will too. Purchase: I bought this guitar second hand from a friend who has gone over to the dark side (hard house and trance!). I paid £230 with a 30W Marshall but the guitar was as new, hardly touched.
Pros: The sound of this guitar is really meaty. My brother owns a Mexican Tele and the sound difference is really big. It's great for playing along to Heartbreaker by Led Zep.
I tend to use Ernie Ball Hybrid slinky strings which are good for riffing and soloing, just turn everything up to 10 and plug away. A fairly wide range of tone can be extracted thanks to the three way pick up selector. Plonk it in the middle and start playing with the tone controls for neck and bridge pickups. you can fade each in or out, dampen the bridge to give a warm bluesy feel. The strokes managed to get a keyboard synth sound by rolling back the tone and upping the distortion... lovely.
Cons: My only grievence about the Epiphone model is the pick-up switch. it crackles when switching mid song making you sound like a fool when trying to do the morse code bits in the outro!! Quality: The colour, as it should be with LPs is a cherry burst, excellent finish with no blemishes at all. the sound of this guitar is really meaty. My brother owns a Mexican Tele and the sound difference is really big. It's great for playing along to Heartbreaker by Led Zep.

Purchase: I found this guitar at the String Shoppe in Columbus, Ohio. It was in the used guitar section, and I paid $320 and got a used Epiphone hardshell case with it. Pros: The Transparent Blue finish is incredable. The sound quality is excellent, as well as the gloss finish. The green plastic Kluson tuners seem to work very well. This guitar came equipted with an Ephiphone Bixby type of set up already installed. Cons: I have no dislikes or complaints, except that the top side of the back and the lower half of the back are different. One is heavy wood grain, and the other half is tight. (it doesnt match). On my other Ephiphone Les Paul Standard the whole backside is the same. Quality: Other than what I stated above, everything else seems excellent. Perfectly intonated. Review Summary: You cant go wrong for the money on these guitars. I own five Epiphones, ( a 2001 reissue '58 Korina Explorer, a '92 SG-400, A 2003 Les Paul {Transparent Amber} and a '99 Viola Bass. Purchase: I got this guitar for about $400 and something at guitar center.
I bought it mainly because of the les paul reputation and legacy. When i plugged it in a 100 watt Marshall and took it for a test ride i was blown away Pros: The main thing i love about this guitar is the body. It is heavy, and beautifully sculpted. The curves on the body adapt perfectly to mine's and make it confortable and solid to rock out with. The tones are wonderfull. The clean is warm and full, distorted trough a Marshall, you can get some really heavy thunder. Cons: The stock tuners on the guitar are terrible and do no justice to this beauty. I changed mine's for grovers, but these were a bit too fat for the tuner holes so i had to make the holes a bit wider. I don't like strap locks, so i had a friend of mine's drill a new strap pin hole in the back of the guitar. The strap pins are in a weird place where it makes your strap slip easily. The paint job is delicate and you must definately consider getting a case. My LP fell of it's stand one day and chipped/ bruised realy bad. Also, i play downtuned and do a lot of mute picking, which causes the bridge to lower and get my guitar out of tune, i have to periodically readjust the bridge which is a reall pain in the ***! Quality: THe quality is excellent. This guitar is really worth every dollar and more! It is not as good as the gibson for the tuners, pickups, and wood are of inferior quiality, BUT! it is a wonderfull guitar for a reasonable price. The adjustments and troubles i got trough with the bridge are definately worth it. Review Summary: The Epiphone LP is great. Cosmetically it is jaw droppingly beautifull. Value wise it is definately a valuable investment in the never ending search for perfect tone. On 2004-03-09, Eric guitarist of Last Chance rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 5...(8226)
Purchase: I got this 2 years ago at Guitar Center in Spokane Washington for $499. Pros: Well i am in a 3 piece band that plays a wide range of rock so the tone i need is a very full one,and with this guitar i got it. It has a very nice heavy tone and when you palm mute with it,it gets lower than a lot of basses. With a clean tone it gets a nice sparkly almost acoustic tone. Action was not set too low(which i like)but was very very light. Lead tones are great and i am able to get the right amount of feedback thru my Crate GX212. Cons: One of the tuners buzzes slightly every once and awhile, you dont hear it when plugged in though. I have slammed the selecter switch real hard and had it go out on the rhythm side. I kinda wish it didnt weigh 14 or 15 pounds. Quality: Fit and finish is very good, nothing at all bad in my opinion. Ive got an Ebony model so its not a real hard finish to get right. Except for the buzzing tuner and switch everything is great. Review Summary: I am very glad i got this guitar. It has the fat full tone that i absolutly need in a 3 piece band. I recommend it. Purchase: I bought this guitar at a Guitar Center because my other guitar was falling apart and I needed a decent guitar for under $700 fast. I paid $550, because I got a more expensive finish: Heritage Cherry Sunburst. If you buy the Ebony finish, its $500. Pros: I'm very rough on my guitars. I was pleased to see that it still works after two years. The sound was generally rich, with a ton of sustain. It had a very fat, humbucker sound, characteristic of the Gibsons. I liked the easy access to the electronics, also. Cons: I did not like that pieces tended to fall off without much abuse. The pickup switcher knob fell off after the first week or so. The tuners generally stay in place, but are easily bent out of shape. Other than that, the guitar was pretty solid. Quality: The electronics were generally neatly wired, but there was some sawdust lurking inside, which made it difficult to probe around. For the most part, the neck was fast and slim, a light "C" shape. There were no buzzes until after I'd bashed it around some. There were also no finish flaws. Review Summary: This guitar was pretty good for its price. It would be a solid intermediate guitar. If you want true Gibson Les Paul quality, though, save up for the Gibson. The construction on the Epiphone was decent, though not as thorough as the Gibson. But if you're on a budget, or if you need a second guitar, this is a good bet. Purchase: I tried it and decided against buying it. I got a better guitar than this or the Gibson model for less money. Pros: They've opened up and added some pretty good finishes, but that's about it. Cons: Weight, stock intonation, woods, pickups. Quality: It was okay. There wasn't any spilled finish. It was all hardwood, but was not the highest quality hardwood. I won't mention brand here, but you can get a "cheaper" brand guitar with a bookmatched flamed maple top, birdseye maple neck, and maple back that doesn't weigh as much, doesn't cost half as much, sounds better, and comes with killer transparent finishes, a pro setup, and a better designed cutaway that allows better access to the upper frets. Review Summary: This and Gibson are a blatant waste of money unless you get a really good custom shop Gibby. If you just have to have a name brand guitar, go with what most of the pros go with... a fender strat. It's more versatile, cheaper, and better made. Also, if you've already bought one of these, don't try to set it up by just adjusting the thumb wheels under the bridge. You can kill your break angle, cause fret buzz, and mess up your intonation. Purchase: i got this sweet axe from a friend 3rd hand for £120 Pros: i love the warm and thick les paul sound, this guitar sounds great distorted, really fat thanx to the 2 humbuckers. its great for playin all kinds of shit, i play mostly thrash metal and rock and the pickups really cut through. on clean, the neck 'bucker can sound too muddy if the tone isnt cranked and the finish is gorgeous, no mistakes or blotches anywhere Cons: the tuning pegs are a bit dodgy, they rattle when i play and are a bit sloppy, but ill tighten em when i can be arsed, shud do the trick Quality: its a bolt on neck which i thought was strange for a les paul, i think it might be glued as well tho, solid as a rock! as i said, the finish is immaculate. frets are nice n chunky, and the necks nice and fast as its the epiphone version Review Summary: this is the 1 of the best guitars i own, ive got a vintage vj6 (cough) ESP ltd kh202 and a jackson ke3 kelly and it'll wipe the floor with all of these (cept the KH!) if you want all round versatility - i love it! Purchase: I was looking for a Les Paul model to replace my worn out Peavy Raptor about 3 years ago. I looked at a brand called Tradition but heard they had gone down on quality. I went to Reno's music and saw this awesome Epiphone. The guy said he would give it to me for $440 whith the hard case included(These guitars usualy sell for around $500). I played it and it felt great! It had awesome tone and great looks with its sunbust finish. I couldn't belive my luck and purchased it. Pros: I like everything about this guitar! The tune-o-matic bridge is one of my favorite features. You can adjust your action without tools by loosening the strings and turning two pieces of chrome hardware unlike the strat models made by Fender where you have to buy a separate tool and adjust each string individually. Cons: There is nothing I don't like about this Guitar. Everyone should have one. Quality: The quality and construction are great I have not had any problems or had to replace anything but strings. Review Summary: Epiphone is every bit as good as a Gibson. The guy at the store said the only differences between the Epiphone and the gibson is the pickups, the inlays in the fret board(Gibson uses mother of pearl)and the parts for Epiphone are manufactured in Korea but set up in the US. The pickups give great sound and you can't tell the difference on the inlays. That combined with great craftsmanship and I have to ask Why spend over $1,000 for a Gibson when you can have a guitar thats just as good for less than half the price? Purchase: I aquired this guitar from Mars Music when they were open still here in california. I bought it because i couldn't afford a gibson les paul of course. Being that Mars closed up shop i figure its okay to tell you i got this guitar for $200.00 "manager special" retails normally well over $500. Pros: For one the price for sound. I have had the opportunity to play gibsons since. And honestly there is very little difference other then price! (And no this doesnt go for the cheaper epiphones for $200 with bolt on neck and cheasy electronics and faulty switches.) this is a bad ass guitar. alnico pickups gibson quality switches stays in tune great! Set neck through body. full body binding and neck binding in cream. Cons: honestly the only thing i dont like is the fact that i could only get black at the time. haha i wish they had a sunburst color. Purchase: Christmas Present. Bought at Steves Music in Ottawa, Canada. 514.99 plus tax and case came to about 675. Decided on Epiphone cuz gibsons are very expensive, and im only 16. Pros: I Love my les paul. Even though the head is slightly different shaped, and it doesnt say gibson, you can hardly tell the differnce in sound. I had heard many a gibson les paul, and this one is quite up to par. Epiphone sure makes a great les paul. Pick ups scream when you wanna solo, and growl when your playing the blues. I play mainliy blues and blues rock. Stuff like Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Hendrix. I can get tons of sounds out of it, its perfect! Cons: Slight buzzing on in the saddles of high e and G string, im sure this could be fixed, as i have never had it set up. Other then that i have nothing but love for it. Quality: Extremely solid. Weighs a ton, so you know its good wood. Pick Ups sound jsut like a gibson PAF. frets are low and fast. Neck is amazingly smooth, never played anything liek it. Review Summary: If you are in love wiht the les paul model, but dont have 2-3 grand to spend, then getting an epiphone will suit you just fine. Very well made, very beautiful guitar. I have a honeburst finish and the flames are huge. Overall an excellent buy. On 2004-01-08, Gibsons Rule! rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 5...(7417)
Purchase: I got this suberb guitar from a music close to me, i paid £350 for a Heratage Sunburst finish. I got this guitar because you only live once, you may aswell, thats what I thought. And to because I have always like this guitar. Pros: I like this guitar, the sound quality is superb. If you play this though an amp 10 Watt - 20 Watt, then you will get a suberb sound quality. Cons: There is nothing I don't like about this guitar it is just brillian, there is no point in getting a real Gibson Les Paul for over £1000. These are just as good. Quality: The headstock is very nicely shaped, nice machine heads, a lot easier when u break a string, to put another one on, unlike Strats.
The neck is smooth, the fret board is suberb quality. The body is the best bit, with a cool 3 - Way pick-up selector switch on the top of the guitar, its a lot easier to swith to another pick-up, when in a hurry.
The humbucker pick-ups are very good quality, nice sounding, not as good as a real Les Paul, but close enough. Review Summary: If anyone wants a new guitar get this, there superb, there also good guitars for either rock or blues, mostly a blues guitar.

Purchase: I got it for Christmas. Pros: It has an amazing tone. It has also has many sonds and variations. I've played Gibsons and Fenders that are in the price range of the thousands and this guitar plays just the same. You can't tell the difference. There might be a few weight differences but that's it. Cons: Nothing Quality: Extremely well made. It is made of strong solid wood. It has outstanding humbuckers and a rosewood fingerboard. Review Summary: Bottomline The best brand there is. Go get one. Purchase: I acquired this guitar while testing out models for a chistmas present from my parents. I had it down the wire between the one i have and a factory second. Since this guitar was a special edition and had real gibson pickups, block inlays, and gold hardware, i got it. since its a special edition it cost about 700 dollars, but i turned in a squire strat for 100 off. Pros: I like everything. The wide neck for easier play (in my opinion). the looks are just beautiful, with gold on black and artwork on the back, it is a beautiful guitar. The pickups are howlin, and way better than my previous guitar. I also prefer the les paul guitar in general to most other guitars. Cons: what don't i like? one of the inlays was poorly done, but it is hardly noticable. Quality: This guitar was built very nicely with the exception of the inlay. Review Summary: So, to summarize, This guitar rocks. I'd take an epiphone over a gibson any day. "why?" says the rich man. "Money" says me. Purchase: I bought this guitar from Turkey for 600$,I didnt really care how much it cost because I think it is a beauty Pros: Everything, the look, the playability, the quality according to the price you pay for it! Cons: Nothing (yet!....and hopefully never will!!) Quality: The construction is really cool and you can tell that people have worked on it for quite a while.Since these are tested in the USA and since epi stands behind its product by giving you a life time warranty there cant be anything on it that is below quality. Review Summary: This guitar is absolutely brilliant.Just to let you know, no one should expect the taste of a wine with the price of a beer! Of course it has adjustments and upgrades needed to be done to it but I can go along with the upgrades with my eyes closed on this guitar, whereas your hands would be tied with a Gibson. For people who say there is no difference between the 2 guitars (Gibson LP and Epiphone LP) that is not right...as Gibson uses AAA wood, better pickups and detailed construction. Of course at least 500-600 dollars go to the brand name which is fairly normal. This guitar has a great tone though. For people who are not too picky on the pickups, the stock pickups are fabulous. The tuning machines need to be changed. I am getting GOTH locking tuners. I am not changing the pickups just now, but in the future, I would probably go for a S. Duncan pickup. Buy a strap lock because the ones on this are in such an angle that the strap could slide off really easily. I went for the Dunlop strap locks and they are perfect. Guaranteed to hold up to 700Lbs with those locks! To cut a long story short, this guitar is really great. There is no need to fool people by saying this guitar is as good as a Gibson, lets be realistic. This guitar is the best guitar you can buy for this price however. Great for a beginner or an intermediate. If you buy this guitar I recommend you get the hardshell case to it as well, because the paint work is fragile and due to its dark color may show scratch or bump marks. Last sentence would be.... ENJOY THIS GUITAR, GUARANTEED TO GIVE YOU JOY! On 2003-11-18, Colin Squires rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 5...(6299)

Purchase: This Les Paul belongs to a friend of mine. I played it on his recordings a couple of times. The model lists for around $450. Pros: Substantial (the legendary Les Paul weight). Good heritage cherry sunburst finish. Cons: Nothing really exceptional about it. The fingerboard is not that good in feel; it's really too much to expect any Epiphone to feel and play like a Gibson. This particular Les Paul is also not very versatile, and the pickups seem to be weak. The nut got chipped and had to be replaced. Quality: Decent if not exceptional. Review Summary: I don't think much of Epiphone's SG and Les Paul lines; I think their archtop series (the Riviera and the Dot are especially sweet) tends to be superior. Still, it *is* a Les Paul, and if you don't like dealing with the feedback associated with semi-acoustics then this is one way to get a Les Paul for a reasonable price. Purchase: I got this guitar from Mars Music when it was going out of buisness in my area. I think it cost about 500, something like that. Pros: Oh man, its just awesome. I tried it aginst some Gibsons, and it was every bit as good. Gotta love those Humbuckers:) Cons: The only thing that bothered me was the Lime green tuning keys, which are a little hard on the eyes. Also the bridge can be a little aquard when restringing it. Quality: Theres nothing like these instruments. I never thought id end up owning one. The finishes on them are absolutely amazing. Mine is in blue, but I love how you can still see the wood grain on it. Review Summary: This guitar is great. It beats any strat Ive ever played for comfort, it beats any electric ive ever used for tone. It just blew me away. On 2003-07-09, M.Scott rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 5...(5238)
Purchase: I was at a local music store(www.musicstop.com) in Moncton NB and was looking for a better guitar because my Jay Turser to be honest sucked. I was looking at the Gibson Epiphone Les Paul Standard and was surprised to see it was only $713.00 CDN. However it didnt come with a case but it came also with 5 picks and extra strings. Pros: I like the crisp glass-like finish however it tends to leave ugly fingerprints which can be remedyed with polish. I also like the tuning pegs and the Humbucker pickups. The fretboard is made of AA maple wood which is very comfortable to play. Cons: I dislike the pickguard because it looks ugly and when you strum you hit your hand because it is on a 45 degree angle. Aside from this it is an overall good guitar. Quality: Quality Gibson made instrument. I'd say that this Epiphone would give the authentic Gibsons a run for their money. Purchase: Purchased new, off the rack, two years ago at a music store. Pros: The Epi Les Paul Standard is a beauty to look at. There are several flavors and the one I chose gets compliments everywhere I take it.
It has the traditional fat, crunch and mellow tones that made the Les Paul a standard for blues and rock. I've never heard a Gibson Les Paul sound better.
Playability is as good as can be for any guitar with a bit of a fat, chunky neck.
I had to adjust my playing style slightly but had no problems making it sing.
It is well constructed, good electronic and hardware. I've notice some reviewers have complained about the Epi Les Pual having faulty toggle switches. What I learned was that the switches themselves are ok (though admittedly not the best). What sometimes happens is that packing dust sometimes gets in the toggle well and intermittently prevents contact when swithing the pickups. A can of aresol sprayed into my toggle well 2 years ago provided a permanent solution.
The lime green tuners are a little cheesy, more in appearance then functionality.
My other guitar has Grovers and it stays in tune better, but I'm not that much impressed by the difference. Anyway, what guitar player doesn't constantly fiddle with his tuners anyway? Cons: Like all Pauls, the neck is a little beefy.
Quality: Construction and quality well above average for a production guitar. Review Summary: A beautiful, well playing and sweet sounding production guitar. Much more guitar than you pay for. On 2003-05-23, Rick Secchi rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 5...(4908)
Purchase: I bought this piece of heaven, from Coda-Music in London, for a good £309. I needed something that wasn't too intimidating, and fairly cheap. As a teenager, who'd been playing for about 2 years, and sick of strat copies, the Les Paul was a treat. Pros: The finish on this baby is beautiful.I got it in the sunburst. I was lucky not to get the floresent green plastic tuning pegs, and got the better metal ones instead. This guitar makes anyone look good. From metal to blues, this guitar is right for the job. Its not as heavy as people may say it is, its just right. Cons: Its a bit of a pain to keep clean. To keep its beautiful look and shine is hard to for fill. It isn't made in the U.S. Its also a pain that it doesn't say Gibson on the top! And its a lot more fragile than a strat. But no real problems, due to the playable effect of it. Quality: Its very well built. The look is amazing. It sounds really good. It almost is a real Gibson, and is a good buy. Review Summary: If you see this guitar in a shop, play it, buy it, and I promise you that you won't regret, not buying it. It's worth it, believe me. Purchase: I bought it from SoundMove Music here in sunny England for £399, that's about $600, I think. I was, like another person reviewing this guitar on this site, originally looking at Fender Strats, but the gorgeous honeyburst finish caught my eye and I was blown away. Pros: I was worried about the fact that I didn't take the one in the store, because I didn't have the cash on me at the time, but as it turned out, the one they ordered in for me was SO MUCH BETTER!!! I must have struck gold with this guitar, it just sounds so sweet! The only thing was the bridge pickup, which I changed to a Seymour Duncan Invader, for a better 'rock tone' and more bite. The guitar (with a bit of work on the action) is now officially perfect and I would recommend that p'up to anyone, particularly with an Epi LP Standard. It stands up to ANY Gibbo, PRS or Hertitige (I challenge anyone to beat it!!!) and have had proper professional session musicians amongst others tell me so, I don't think I will ever trade up on this type of guitar, ever, I love it death and beyond. Cons: Only thing was the bridge p'up, which I felt was just a little weak for hard rock and metal, but the neck humbucker is sweet, it's great for blues and melodic rock especially, and captures harmonics with just as much clarity as an EMG, only this does it with CLASS. (When playing Master of Puppets, when I solo I actually switch to the neck! No trem, so can't replicate exactly, but the hard tail gives the guitar great sustain.) Quality: Two humbuckers, chrome hardware, mahogany set neck, mahogany body with maple cap, two volume, two tone controls. Typical LP stuff really. The honeyburst finish is utterly mind-blowning and looks so good with an open coil pickup and covered humbucker. I'm gonna stick a coil tap on next, then it will just be unbelievable. The set neck makes for a sturdy feel (it's great for headstock bends) and if you play aggressively it is very reassuring to play such a solid and well built guitar. Review Summary: This is an unbelievably great guitar for the price, I played my first gig with this guitar and will probably play my last with it too. I only wonder if I lucked out tremendously, if the wood is from some increadibly healthy, tall tree and the guys doing the set-up were in a really great state-of-mind the day this one went through. I hear Epiphones (like a lot of mass produced guitars) can be a little-hit-and-miss so when you find one you relly connect with don't leave the store without it, it's your guitar and you won't regret buying it. It feels great, sounds great and looks great, what more could you ask for? On 2003-03-14, Jayson Chan rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 4...(4549)
Purchase: I paid 355 for this lp at music123.com. i got such a good price by telling them that i found a cheaper price. those FOOLS!!! i lied there wasnt a cheaper price that i knew of Pros: i like the fact that this guitar is is les paul. it's hell lovely looking and cheap. It's cheaper than gettin a fucken gibson. you get the looks and proper inspection on it. Cons: this only thing i didn't really like bout this guitar is that the head of the epiphone is different than the gibson. i think it kinda looks.... well, kinda fruity.
The other thing that i have to complain about is the pickups. i think that are pretty horrible. they're muddy. if you want good sound, replace tha damn pickups. switch for treble and rythum sucks ass too. it's pretty cheap. the output plug and the switch gets pretty loose. one thing about the guitar i am really unsatisfied about is the pick guard hole that were drilled into the body. a fucken piece got chipped off. i found out the first time i took the pick guard off. Quality: the quality is average. they could do much better drilling the damn holes in to my piece of wood. Review Summary: this is a pretty good guitar for the price. they are inspectedby gibson, that i heard. It's a fucken fine looking guitar, well duh, it's a les paul. instead of spending 1500 on a gibson, you can spend 1/4 that price on an epiphone. the pickup really need to be changed if you want good sound. other then that it's worth it. i would recommend this even thought it has some downsides. their pretty minor. Purchase: I recieved this guitar as a Christmas present this year from my wife. She bought it at Crossroads Music in Delaware, Ohio. I think she got it for $579. Pros: I am really impressed with everything about this axe. The color is a transparent Amber Sunburst. I have seen some Gibsons that look similar to this finish, but not exactly like it. As of yet, I HAVE NOT SEEN ANOTHER GUITAR IDENTICAL TO THIS ONE. Its also the Flamed Maple carved top. I love the trapizoid inlays and the copper color knobs. The cream colored pick guard looks great too, as well as the vintage style greenish plastic tuners. It seems set up just fine as it is. I love looking down the Amber color neck as Im playing it, it makes the fretboard stand out and just seems different than a dark colored neck. Cons: There isnt anything that I dont like about this guitar, except that I wish it had the gold hardware. I also wish that it actually said STANDARD on it on the Headstock. Quality: The construction seems every bit as good as any Gibson Ive ever owned, as I had two Customs back in the early -mid 70's. Its a rock solid heavy guitar. The finish is absolutly perfect and the grain patterns are very good and consistant. This guitar is very, very well made and definetly worth the money. Review Summary: This guitar is a keeper for sure, and Im glad my wife picked this one up instead of the ebony one. I think it would be very hard to find a new guitar as nice as this one in that price range. Its front and center stage in my collection at the present time. PUCHASED FROM AIRE GUITARS, IN LEEDS UK FOR £329.DELIVERED NEXT DAY. Pros: FIRSTLY THE NECK IS A DREAM,THIN ENOUGH FOR ANYONE LIKE ME WHO HAS SMALL HANDS,ALLOWING ME TO GET MY FINGERS ACROSS ALL THE STRINGS EASILY.COUPLED WITH ITS LOW ACTION IT MAKES PLAYING A WHOLE LOT EASIER.ALSO A VERY NICE LOOKING INSTRUMENT SOLIDLY BUILT, YOU FEEL IT COULD TAKE ANYTHING YOU COULD THROW AT IT
THIS COULD BE THE GUITAR THAT GETS ME OUT OF THE BEDROOM. Cons: BIT OF A TWANG ON THE "g" STRING WHICH I AM SURE CAN BE ADJUSTED.ALSO NOT REALLY A CRITICISM BUT WEIGHS A TON SO NOT FOR ANYONE LOOKING FOR A LIGHTWEIGHT GUITAR Quality: CANNOT FIND ANY FAULTS WITH THE BUILD QUALITY OF THIS GUITAR ALTHOUGH I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE PICK-UPS COULD BE BETTER. Purchase: I acquired this guitar at the East Coast Music Mall in Danbury for 527$. I was playing a Fender Strat and needed a Guitar of my own, instead of my step-fathers. Pros: The neck on the Guitar is slim enough for my 8th grade hands. I love how the Tone on this guitar sounds. All my friends like it and they are all jelous. Cons: I have had only one string break on me. I think the cause is from the bridge and how much tension it put on the D'ADDARIO strings when I palm muted. The 3-way toggle selector cap went missing for some reason, but luckly we got it replaced for a buck! My E-string Still drops tune, but I think it because I play too hard. This is heavy guitar at 10 1/2 pounds. Other than that It has been Great to me. Quality: This thing gets wacked every when and only one chip is in it. I am amazed on how well the body is. The one Drawback is the Machine Head is bent. Don't ask how it happend. I'm sure it was'nt my fault. Review Summary: So far this guitar has been perfect for me with its nice Sun-Burst color. Purchase: I bought this used on E-bay for $475. It is fully upgraded with a Gibson 57 classic in the neck position and a Seymour Duncan 59 in the bridge. All switches, pots, tuners and other hardware have also been upgraded. Pros: This is a SOLID guitar. No difference when compared to a 'real' Les Paul. The pick up combo in this unit gives it authentic Gibson sound. The only way to tell that this is not a Gibson Les Paul is that it says Epiphone on the head stock. The finish is beautiful also, deep tabacco burst. Cons: It has a couple of dings and light scratches in the finish and some minor fret and board wear, but hey it's ten years old. The upgrades made it worth the money. Quality: Solid, top quality. I can't see any reason to get a Gibson over this Epi, other than just owning a Gibson. I had a hard enough time getting 'permission' for this one, so the Les Paul dream will probably remain a dream. Until then the Epi is more than enough guitar for me. Review Summary: I have played a few stock epis and heard the concerns about the electronics so had decided to upgrade one if I bought one. This guitar was already max upgraded and in the condition I wanted. It even had a very similar pick up combo to what I would have picked, and these work great. All in all a fabulous deal on a fabulous guitar that I am not afraid to play for fear of scratching.

Purchase: I purchased this guitar from www.musiciansfriend.com for $549, because I fell in love with the Les Paul model after playing a friend's. Pros: The best things about the guitar are the pickups. The thick, rich sound is beautiful. The neck is pretty quick, and u get clear notes all the way to the 22nd fret. Cons: It's a bit heavy; hard on the shoulders, but even so well worth it. I really can't think of much else; maybe if Epiphone could put the same tuners on the guitar as the Gibson version (even though the strings have kept in tune for long periods of time, I have heard some stories about them being less reliable than the Gibson tuners). Quality: Tops in quality. If you're going to spend a decent amount of money on a guitar, make sure you get what you want. The guitar definitely matches many other guitars of higher prices in construction quality. Les Pauls are rough, but just dont scratch the finish. Review Summary: It's a kickass guitar. Purchase: 1st of all,i would like to tell, that i am from pakistan,as you people might know,it isn't a country where music is too much encouraged, therefore no support is expected from the parents.Anyways, mine parents are a different story, they do support me and they did,by making available, the money to purchase the guitar i am reviewing right now(and with a hope in my heart, that i might win another one ;)).Anyways, there arn't many decent instrument dealerz/shops,infact almost none, here in pakistan. Therefore i had no choice but to buy a guitar online. My cousin who is studying in the USA,had to come back to his hometown(pakistan),which rang a bell in my mind.i thought why not purchase a guitar online get it shipped at his place and he will hand-carry it back here in pakistan.i did not wanted the guitar to be shipped here directly because, well you might not know that, pakistani cargo people are savages :D!!!!.They don't really handle things with care, especially guitars,as there arn't many people who buy guitars or get it shipped, here in pakistan.Anyways i started surfing musical instruments-oriented websites, when i stumbled upon musiciansfriend.com.I found the prices to be very resonable + i really like the website's interface :D .So,i choose musiciansfriend.com to buy a guitar online. Now the matter was, which guitar to get.I am totally mad about the shape of the LES PAUL standerd guitar.I did not had too high a buget to afford a GIBSON so i settled for an EPIPHONE model of the LES PAUL standerd electric guitar(another reason for choosing it was that it was one of the bestsellers on the website :-D!!).i always wanted the EBONY colour(and it came out the be the cheapest available options in all the colours available..what more could i want ;)!!!),so i went for it.It is $499...pretty reasonable for the std LES PAUL shape.Thats the story of Where,How i got it and how much i paid for it.
Pros: well..I LOVE THE UNIT :D!..Well ok,yea yea I know, theres no need to get hyper!!.Well ok,first of all it is one of my faverite guitar body shapes, the LES PAUL standerd shape.2ndly,it has 2 classic chormome humbuckers, which delivers the awesome LES PAUL sound. My friend has a GIBSON and surprisingly there isn't a too obvious difference in the sound of my guitar and his!(poor he..as he spent a LOT more than me! :p).
I really liked the rosewood fretboard. It has a really solid feel, infact the overall feel of guitar is very solid(which gives u a sense of security!;-D ).
Another thing that I noticed and really loved about this guitar is that from heavy distorted riffs to melodious blues melodies,it delivers such a perfect sound!,which is a great plus point in my view if you are a person who doesn't just stick to one style of music, like me.
One more thing,it has the LIMITED LIFETIME WARRENTY offer!!..which means if by filling out the WARRENTY FORM,if ever my guitar gets faulty,i can always get it repaired/changed!
Cons: umm...nothin much really. Its just that,I wished the tuning pegs were made of metal or atleast painted with silver or some other metallic colour, instead of a somewhat strange greenish colour! And yeah another one that the colour(EBONY) i bought is great and thats exactly the colour I wanted, but theres a problem with it,even the slightest speck of dust(and theres pretty much here in pakistan) becomes very prominent on EBONY colour, plus hand stains and all also become pretty prominent. It aint really a problem or something to dislike as a person can always wipe the dust off and all,but I guess this wouldn't had been a problem with the other colours(the natural LES PAUL colour and the vintage colour). Quality: well the standerd LES PAUL shape,Rosewood fingerboard, solidMahogany body,Carved maple top,Cream body and fretboard binding....in short its AWESOME!!! Review Summary: Well what more to say.I really love my instrument. And I belive,so will the people who choose to buy it.If u want the classic LES PAUL SHAPE,TONE and you don't have too big a buget...GOOO FOR ITTTT!!!!!! Purchase: Well, I was searching for a good incentive to help me stop smoking (it actually worked, 5 months and still counting!) and since I was missing my old Ibanez Artist tremendously (sold for a ridiculous price 6 years ago), I decided to buy a new electric guitar. When I entered the store, the Epi Les Paul were obviously the big sellers. I was quite happy since I've always been a Les Paul lover but never had enough money to get one. I finally bought a Les Paul Standard Heritage Cherry Sunbust for $529 (canadian dollars).
Pros: I've always loved the Les Paul neck. Aside from the look (the flametop is beautiful!), this is the number one reason for buying this guitar. I've tried new Ibanez guitars and hate the Wizard ultra-slim necks. It a bit stange, since access to higher frets is harder on a Les Paul, yet I feel right at home with this neck. And the sound is also as close as you can get to a real Les Paul. Rich and warm, and as much crunch as you want. Cons: Well, I changed a lot of stuff but to be honnest, I will separate real problems from personal dislikes.
- The Tune-O-Matic bridge has a big problem. The A and D string keep breaking (I have to change strings every week) unless you raise the tailpiece to a ridiculously high level. I'll change the saddles to take care of that, or the whole brige if the price difference is not to big.
- The 3-way toggle switch was making so much noise I also had to change it.
- Aside from that, I changed machine heads for Groovers and pickups for DiMarzio Super Distortion (bridge) and Paf Pro (Neck). These were personal dislikes, stock compenent are OK (not great, but OK).
Quality: The body and neck quality is excellent, it's sturdy and well finished.
As previously stated, the electronic components are very low quality and may cause problems.
The machine heads are very ugly but work well. The pickups are moderately good, the bridge is better than the neck, which is very muddy. They are still 10 times better than the crap you find on Ibanez gutars.
I'm overall very satisfied with the construction and finish of this guitar. Review Summary: Well, the guitar got me pissed on several occasions, and I have a love-hate relationship with it. Since I've played for several years on a very good guitar (Ibanez Artist with stock Dimarzio Pups), I may be a bit demanding. With everything I've changed now, it's an excellent guitar, yet I've spent more than 900$ to make it so. Nevertheless, for this price tag, you won't find better in my opinion. And for this price tag, you can't possibly give it more than a 3. Othewise, how would you rate a real Gibson Les Paul? On 2002-12-02, DK rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 5...(3186)
Purchase: Through a local music store. I rang around a few places and they gave me the best price of $1200 australian. Pros: Ive been playing a sqier strat for about 3 years now and, even with the lightest gauge strings available, doesnt come close to the playability of my new Epi Les Paul. I originally got the honeyburst finish but I returned it and had a Heritage cherry sunburst ordered (it looks alot better). The flame maple top looks stunning. I played a Gibson les paul at the same shop and the Epi compares very well. Cons: My only complaints are the green machine head buttons. Also the pickup selector switch feels a bit loose. And if you try to remove the pick guard (which I think makes the guitar look better) your left with two small screw holes. Very minor complaints as you can see. Quality: The construction of the guitar is outstanding. The finish looks absolutely beautiful. Great "full" tone (none of that twangy strat sound). The playability is second to none. the neck has a lovely smooth feel and the inlays are set perfectly. price: $490.00 Canadian! Pros: Great colour= transulcent amber, classic look and finish. Seems to have a qauilty construction. Easy playbility. A solid axe. Cons: The neck seems to made of plastic though it isnt. The top string tends to vibrate hard when plucked, bashing against the neck leaving unwanted noise. Quality: see above Review Summary: Great looking axe with solid playability. Great for the price though gibson, is really lacking in the quality control department as late. I love the Les Paul sound and also have a Fender Standard strat which is about the same price range. Go for the strat just better made qaulity for this group of quitars, however i cannot speak for the big dogs of each company. Purchase: I bought this guitar in a guitar shop in Norway. I paid about 700$, but that's because everything is rediculously expensive here... I was looking for a starter guitar that wasn't completely horrible and not too expensive. Pros: I like the Finish A LOT. This is one of the things that are of slightly less quality than the AAA (very good wood)that gibson uses, but it's still very nice. It also has A very good tone and you can change some of the parts and end up with a guitar nearly exactly as good as the real deal. Doest costtoo much either. Cons: I have some minor problems with the look of this weird metal supporter that's screwed into the underside of the waist and it can get a bit heavy after a while so you need a good strap, but then again that is a sign of quality, so... Quality: The construction is very nice. The neck is glued, not bolted and nothing seems loose, even after having used it for a few years now... There is no laquer under the lids behind the tone controls and the rythm/treble switch, but that REALLY doesn't matter... You never see it so.. Review Summary: A very good guitar in all respects, change the tuning system, costs about 40$ and perhaps the pickups, even though they're very good and you've got a first grade guitar...
One thing though, make sure you buy the Zhech version. NOT the Korean one. The Korean one is not nearly as good, and none of the comments i've made will correspond with a Korean one. Ask the klerk, but don't be fooled either.
You know those little screw resembling things on the humbuckers?? Make sure they're flat and slanted, not roundish. On 2002-09-27, Luke Hatton rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 4...(2785)
Purchase: I bought my epi at TK music in north wales. I went into the shop desperately wanting an ibanez just because of the name but, after playing a few low end range ibanez i was put off. this drew my attention to the les paul. it was new in at £360. This was more money than i had. the looks attracted me. thats all i can say. But after playing it i couldnt resist. Pros: i love the tone. its warm and so nice. from sweeps to shred sound great and the neck feel is perfect. i think the instrument can be exploited to its full capability with the 4 tone and volume controls and overall it looks stunning in honey sunburst. Cons: i think the pickups may sound abit cheapy compared to other guitars in the same price range. but the tone from the mahogany body makes up.
a big problem is the neck.. if you sweep and want to play jason beckers - serrena. u will find it hard at the high frets because of the neck gets in the way.
i dont like the green tuning keys.. to me they look ugly.
no real complaints though Quality: overall it is a amazing price for the unit and i recommend it over a real gibson!

Purchase: from guitar center for 500$
Pros: i like the fact that it has a nice look to it Cons: i don't like this guitar because the jack systym breaks within months. the guitar is extremely unporportional and back-heavy. it has an extremely large ammount of feedback when it is pluged into an amp. the pickups don't pick up the sound as well as other guitars of the same price of cheaper. overall: i wouldn't reccomend this guitar to anyone. Quality: unporportional design.
bad quality: it breaks early. Review Summary: horrible overpriced guitar. epiphone made a big mistake. On 2002-05-12, David Hillsman rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 4...(2121)
Purchase: Got it used with a Crate amp and pedal for $200 plus a hard case from an individual. Excellent condition. Couldn't pass that deal up. Didn't want to spend $1200 for the Gibson. Saw this model new in a store for $539 so it's not really a "cheapie." It was made in Korea. Pros: Good sustain, fast neck. Not as heavy as the Gibson Les Paul. The previous owner had changed the pickups so can't judge the originals. Think they were solid silvers. Looks like he put DiMarzios. They fit a little loose but that's Ok, I guess. Good intonation adjustment at the high frets. Cons: The rythym/lead switch has already failed. Not expensive or hard to replace, however, with a little soldering. It is NOT like the Gibson switch. Get a little buzzing on the 6th string but can adjust it out. Wish they had a better setup for plugging in the cord. The connector tends to get loose and and the cord gets pinched easily. There's a removeable plate that gives access to the plug. Quality: Nice finish, seems solid. Have the red "sunburst" type. The strut rod cover says Gibson instead of Epiphone. Definitely lighter than the Gibson, but that is better for your back. Review Summary: Very good guitar, especially for what I paid for it. Very happy with it but still want a good Strat, too! Should be lots of these Epiphones available used. On 2002-04-08, Axe Murderer rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 5...(1983)
Purchase: Got this with hard case for $550. (on sale,
of course) That's a good thing to tell the wife
as well after you walk in with it - "But honey,
it was on sale." That has helped me, at least.
Now if I can just make this next one fly:
"Honey, I accidentally clicked 'order' on a
Morley Bad Horsie Wah. Honest." Pros: This is a lovable guitar. I have already "melded"
with mine and will never let it go. I got the
solid black color. It is beautiful; very well
finished. Has great warm tone and sustain.
Looks and plays great. The neck and fretboard
have a good feel. Cons: It's a bit heavy. Also, you can expect your
pickup selector switch to zonk out on you
before long. (I replaced mine myself). The
tuning machines are ugly but work ok. The
pickups are ok, but not the greatest. I will
replace mine eventually, but not yet. The
stock pickups aren't bad. Quality: Very well constructed. Could use a better
pickup selector switch, and better looking
tuning machines. Otherwise, it's cool. Review Summary: If you think you want to buy this guitar, you
are right. Buy it. I love the damn thing. No
way in hell I'm gonna pay 2grand or so for
a Gibson Les Paul as long as this is around.
This is, after all a REAL Les Paul (with his
name on it) - it is not a copy.

Purchase: This may be the most satisfying purchase I have ever made. Put of the blue, in the middle of entertaining friends for dinner at our home, I announced that I wanted to buy a guitar after having put it down for over 20 years. My wife protested, but the next day I set out on my quest to acquire the best guitar for the least amount of money, within reason. I wanted a good guitar that I could grow with and still find usable as I became more proficient, but I also didn't want to spend a ton of money on something that might very well wind up gathering dust in the basement. This guitar is the perfect solution, and frankly, I'm not sure that I will ever buy the "real thing", even if my skills develop to the point of justifiying such a purchase, because in my experience the "real things" are NOT significantly better than the Epiphone. Mine is a beautiful flametop that I bought ("stole" might be more accurate)for $549.00. The price included a lilfetime warranty and free set-ups for life! I am convinced that the excellent quality of this guitar has kept me playing--at least an hour a day for over a year now!
Pros: Its playability. Its sustain. Its resonance. The obvious high quality of the construction and its beautiful finish (I always get lots of compliments on it.) Cons: Very minor complaint--every six months jsut about, the Rythm/Treble switch needs to be tightened. Quality: Single-piece construction of Mahogany, rosewood fretboard, maple top. Headstock is solid, tuners are magnificnet and hyper-accurate. Humbucker pickups are great, and the colume controls are perfect. The finish truly is astonishing--I literally have had people who are much more knowledgable than I tell me that it looks, feels, plays and sounds exactly like its namesake, which sells for about $1500-$2000 more. Review Summary: As I become a better guitar player, and at the same time more knowledgable about guitars in general, I am more and more pleased with my choice. Obviously there are better guitars out there, but for roughly $500.00, I don't believe there's one that is better than the Epiphone Les Paul Standard.

Purchase: I got this guitar from guitar center after hearing great things about it. It was amazing and i got them to knock off 100 bucks...so i got it. I got it for $445 and list it was $539. Pros: Amazing fretboard, tone is excellent, and its got two gibson humbuckers...and it looks amazing. Cons: Quality: Great finish, excellent headstock, and its right next to a gibson in my book. Review Summary: Great for the money(you can always haggle), and it is one of the best guitars i have ever played. If you cant afford the gibson version, and even if you can, get this...you will be extremely satisfied. On 2002-02-04, Adam Strzelecki rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 5...(1521)
Purchase: Bought 1/2 year used gear from friend that liked more play bass. Payed about 340$ (but in currency of Poland) including guarantee and guitar case. Pros: Yo! What I like is price. It's really low for some classy guitar like that. Two humbucks really make that climate as known from Jimmy Page or Faith No More's Album of the Year (Jon Hudson) or Kind for a Day (Trey Spruance) - all played on Les Pauls. String keys are great too. But you just must love the low bluessy sound of L.P.
And most of all - the shape and look, it's really great - like a pretty woman.
Cons: Humucks and that plastic finger-pod really like to tremble & vibrate on low sounds (string E especially). String height regulation some time lacks of freedom (known from Fenders like, but I hate Fender ;P). There's no serious disadventages of this gear... maybe "Handcrafted in Corea" could scary somebody. Quality: Gear is middle heave but solid. The quiality of wood impress me much. Fingerboard woor (dark one) is for me solid bould and will last long time.
Freets catched some brown dots... could be made from rustless (stainless) metal.
String keys are really great (silver ones). I hate the plastic ones selled now with Les Pauls. Humbucs give quite satysfying low sound (as I wish) but all electrics could be more noise-free (but it's only 340$) Review Summary: It's great gear for beggining playing blues, jazz or low overdrived grunge, metal.
You love Faith No More or some jazz mild guitar sound - try this guitar, you'll find a music soul in this gear, I'll love the feeling you touch it...

Purchase: Purchased at Mars Music for $399.00
I needed a guitar that could play rock, jazz and blues with some good sustain. Pros: This guitar is a beautiful red quilt top unit. It's got bindings allaround and has the inlaid fret makers. Simply great to look at.
It's easy to play and sounds great with a more warm sound than a strat or tele. Cons: It's a little on the heavy side which takes some getting used to. Quality: The guitar quality at first glance and buy was outstanding. When I had it home, I noticed that the treble/rhythm switch was not functioning correctly and had to bring it back to be fixed.
Also, the frets were unevenly made. The shop evened them for me. In the time they did that, the string bridge from the tuners was loose. Fixed also! Review Summary: Bottom line: The Korean made electronics are crappy. Assembly line made guitars, even though expensive, are sometimes not at all cut out for what they are made out to be.
The guitar now sounds fantastic thanks to a very good repair person at Mars. He realigned the bridges and pickups and did the repairs talked about above. On 2001-12-13, duffmckagan rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 4...(1165)
Purchase: I bought it at Opus 1 Music in Evansville Indiana. Bought to upgrade from my pathetic Mexican Tele. I traded in the Tele and I think I gave about 450.00 for it. I bought it because I've always liked Les Pauls, even if it isn't really a Gibson. Pros: I like the look and feel of the guitar, plays very fast. I think that it was worth my money, immediatly I understood the difference between it and my other guitars, the NECK!! The neck is great, I can't imagine having a guitar with a better neck. I also like the color, ebony, it gives it a very professional and i think sophisticated look. Cons: The Pickups! they suck a whole lot, I can actually talk into them and they pick up my voice. for as good as the neck is, the pickups are much worse, it's almost unbearable. Also the high e dinks from the 18th fret and up. The good thing is that all of this can be fixed pretty easily, once that's done then it's a very, very good guitar. Quality: good quality except for the dinks on the e string, the finish is excellent, the tuning pegs are great, the nut is good, although it wouldn't hurt to change it either. Review Summary: All in all it's a good guitar, I'm glad I bought it, once I get the new pickups I would be obliged to challenge a gibson standard. I think it's worth the money I paid. It works very well on my cybertwin, which is not a big deal, but i have an extremely crappy leem amp and the guitar makes it a little less crappy i think. Purchase: I am left-handed and live in Cape Town, South Africa, and it has always been a struggle to purchase left-handed guitars as mos of the music shops have limited quantities (often cheapies) available. I bought my guitar in Ireland (Musician Inc) 18 months ago for 350 Irish pounds. Why : i saw a fellow guitarist with one and i was impressed with the sound quality & look of it. Pros: It's the most awesome guitar that i have ever owned. it has great sustain and i get the best out of the guitar when i use my overdrive settings on my effects rack (Boss me30). It's power is amazing and as i mentioned above, you can hold notes almost forever.
This guitar has given me great confidence when playing solo's and i can mimick most guitarists - I model my playing on Carlos Santana and my Epiphone makes me sound almost like him!
It has a beautiful body - cherry sunburst and is very easy to play - A DREAM COME TRUE!! Cons: Nothing! Quality: It has 2 Humbuclers and Rosewood fingerboard + Mahogany top.
The cherry sunburst finish is probably the best finish. Everything about the guitar says quality! Review Summary: Easy to play
Awesome rock / lead / solo guitar!!!!!
I look great when i play the guitar!
This is a guitar that you keep for a lifetime and i would definitely recommend this guitar.

Purchase: This guitar was purchased for $499.00 at The String Shoppe in Columbus, OH. This was the second guitar I've purchased from them and they don't just take the thing off the wall and say "See ya!" They polished and dusted the body, put fretboard conditioner on, and tuned it. Great customer service. Pros: This is my 4th Epiphone in the past year that I've purchased. I've started with a verrrry basic Gig Rig, went to a LP Special II, then a Les Paul 100, and now to the Les Paul Standard. Each one has been a huge leap up from the previous model (I now feel "worthy" to play this one!). It's about as close to a real honest to goodness Les Paul without spending an additional $1500.00. This model is Ebony with a set neck, creme binding, and chrome humbuckers. I've always been a sucker for Les Pauls, could be my interest in Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Kiss, etc. The guitarists in these bands all favor Les Pauls. The humbuckers really crank and from the weight of the guitar you can just tell it's well put together. It just feels solid slung around your neck! Cons: Being Ebony the body shows fingerprints; but who cares! Sound and playability wise, this is a suh-weeet axe! Quality: The construction on this guitar is flawless. The binding is perfect and the thing just flat out looks sharp. If only I could play as well as it looks! If you don't have an additional $1000.00, get this over the full fledged Gibson Les Paul. I've said this is the "last guitar" I'll need for awhile. We'll see how long that thinking lasts. Review Summary: Lots of bang for the buck. A well made guitar that sounds excellent and plays well. Purchase: I bought this monster from the academy of sound in Manchester for £370 about two months ago. And since i have baught it i have never put it down. Pros: The main thing that i like about my LP is the tone and the feel of the guitar. It is quite heavy and when its strpped to you, you can tell the difference from fenders straight away!!! It feels like you have got alot more for your money and at 370 i feel like ive ripped epiphone off!!!! It is also great with effects it has heavy distortion and also adds a nice tone to any chorus and reverb effects. and the sunburst finnish is to die for!! Cons: I dont like the fact that its an epiphone and not a gibson but if the gibson is better than this (which it must be)!! im gonna start savin now. Quality: It is built perfectly, there are no inperfections in my LP, and the design of these guitars screem out class, where as the fenders always look cheap and flimsy.
Review Summary: I would recommend to everyone to buy this guitar, i had a les paul studio and i loved that until i had it signed by noel gallagher from oasis so i had to buy a new one so i didnt reck it!!! but instead i bought the standard and the difference is fuckin astoundin!!! but i would give the studio 5 out of 5 also. in my ratings the LP standard should be at least a 15 On 2001-09-09, Jason rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 5...(656)
Purchase: I was looking for a new guitar. I wanted something that would play well and sound professional. At first I was looking for an Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty but it was modeled after the earlier Les Pauls which had a thick neck which did not allow easy playability. I was kind of disappointed. Then I found a Epiphone Les Paul Standard with an Ebony finish. I purchased it at Peeler Music in Toledo, Ohio for $595 with a hardshell case. List price for the guitar is $820.
Pros: This guitar is amazing. It sounds great with or without distortion and is very easy to play with it's slim tapered neck. I have four guitars, and the Les Paul is definitely the best. It has the no tremolo system which makes string changing very easy. I got mine with the Black Ebony finish which in my opinion is nicer looking than the available honeyburst or cherry sunbusrt, which are a bit more expensive, but not much. If you are trying to decide between getting an Epiphone Les Paul or a Gibson I would suggest you get the Epiphone. I have played both and I think they are equally good. The only major difference is that the Epiphone costs a lot less. I know this because when I went to get a new guitar I tried out some Gibsons and I didn't like them any better than the Epiphones. Epiphone guitars are all made by Gibson. My Epiphone even says Gibson on it. It was very well constructed. I like how easy it is to play fast leads on it.
Cons: There is absolutely nothing that I do not like about this guitar. Some people don't care for the no tremelo system but I don't see why. The only reason for it is if you use a whammy bar all of the time which most people don't. Second of all, like I said earlier it is easier to string and it doesn't take you long at all to get use to the different bridge when your palm muting which also wouldn't really matter much because most people don't do that much palm muting.
Quality: It is very well constructed. It mahogany body, and neck and a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. Also as I have said earlier the slim taper neck allows easy playability.
Review Summary: The bottom line is the Epiphone Les Paul standard is a great sounding guitar for a good price.

Purchase: I bought this baby at Link's Music in Hanover PA. I wanted it for a secondary guitar, but it took preferance over my Gibson SG!!! I payed $549 + tax. Pros: The playability was beyond ridiculous. I have never nailed any licks faster than I did on this Les Paul. At first I was worried due to the fact that it wasn't made here, but reviews I've read made me try it out. I loved it, like i said the fretboard is set for speed. So is the action, and I didn't have any overgripping problems on and open D chord like I do on my SG. I think 3rd string is set better on here. Cons: I could complain about wait or finish, but I won't. They are both fine and don't effect my playing. One thing that is annoying is the fact that true Gibsons are a couple thousand more for a guitar that feels the same. I played both and own a Gibson SG and prefer this. Quality: Good, for what I've done now. The finish is purple flake, which i believe isn't on any Les Pauls, Gibson or Epiphone anymore.... I like the bulky feeling on the neck. It helped speed wise. It is all put together well enough. Review Summary: Buy this, not a true Gibson unless you're rich. I love it and I even have a Gibson. Change the pickups if you are picky. Purchase: I bought this guitar at peeler music in toledo, ohio for $525. I decided to get an Epiphone after playing both gibsons and Epiphones and discovering that the Epiphones are almost as good or in some cases better than many Gibsons and are a fraction of the price.
Pros: I like the color of my new les paul. It is an Ebony. You can also get it in sunburst, but I prefer black. I love it's sound and how it feels. The neck is not to thick like some of the other les pauls.
Cons: I can't really think of any problems with it.
Quality: It is very well constructed. Like I said earlier that it's neck isn't too thick like some other les paul models. Also it has a nice cut away so you can get to all of the frets well. It was made in korea, where many well constructed guitars are made, and then set-up and inspected by the Epiphone company in the USA.
Review Summary: It feels good, looks good, and sounds good.

Purchase: I bought the guitar from a guitar shop that is now out of business. Price $550.
Pros: While I was searching for a Fender Strat, this Les Paul was found gleaming in a corner. After playing it for a while I had to have it. Good fretboard feel. Great classic sound that matches the more expensive Gibson models. Even with the classic pickups the distortion crunched with the best of them! Oh...and the finish....very nice.
Cons: The bridge sticks up high from the surface of the guitar making it difficult to play if you are not used to it. It's just as heavy as the Gibson Les Paul’s. I thought it was very well made. If you look very close at both Gibson and Epiphone guitars you will see that Gibson uses AAA top grade woods. Epiphone uses a lower grade but is still good quality. If you want a Strat there's nothing wrong with that but give the Epiphone Les Paul a try.
Quality: Review Summary: If you want a Gibson Les Paul, again give the Epiphone a try. In my opinion it plays just as well at the fraction of the price. On 2001-06-26, Russ rated this Epiphone Les Paul Standard a 5...(76)
Purchase: I took my old beat up kramer to Daddys Junky Music in Albany NY. I was desperately looking for a lefty guitar. I looked all aroud at the cheap feeling strat copies until I came to the end of the line...there she was man...sitting on a guitar stand looking right at me. the guitar is very new and I almost passed out when I saw the 200.00 tag. I believe that was because the pickgueard was missing as well as the plastic tip on the toggle switch which was replaced before I left. They gave me 160.00 for the kramer (American) and I left that store being only 50.00 and change broker.
Pros: I love the beautiful shiny finish. The les paul gold logo and the overall classic real gibson tone and feel. neck is nice but had some glue residue on a fret. I am not rich so this guitar was a godsend! Also the neck is set and not bolt-on. the crafmanship in this guitar is stunning!! I will go onstage anywhere anytime and show the turkeys what real tone sounds like! Ill probably get a duncan hot pickup for the neck position. This axe through a crate vintage club tube amp is the real deal.
Cons: I wish guitar had real gibson kluson tuners like the old standards instead of epi knock-offs. only complaint here!
Quality: A#1 quality and tone for you buck! Very solid axe.
Review Summary: I am still shocked that I came across such a steal today. considering that lefthanded axes usually run you more than rightys!
