On 2008-02-26, Jeremiah rated this Gibson Firebird V a 5...(12916)
History: I've been playing guitar and other stinged instruments for well over 40 years. I got 'em all fenders, gibsons, rickys, marshall and on and on., As well as effects up the yin yang. Been in bands and performed as a solo performing artist for all my years. Musical Tastes, all vintage rock and roll.

Purchase: After a lot of hours thinking and planning i gave in and ordered a FirebirdV Was hoping gibson could match their longstanding reputation for quality and tone. Paid $1685 and was not let down.
Pros: After about a week on a ups delivery plan (5 day ground) in February suspicions rose about cold weather effects for that kind of time enroute and shipping to Maine but arrived and without waiting it was opened and the played. For a couple of minutes there was a little sting buzz but shortly dissapeared. I'll tell ya, what a piece of art and craftsmanship. Perfect tone and construction and looks. What a guitar. A good choice, Absoustely perfect!
Cons: Was counting on a tan /purple/shroud gibson case. instead got a black/no shroud/lizard case, WTF!!! oh well its just a case. Had to return the first case because it didn't fit thed bird as expected, but MF made good and replaced it no problem.
Quality: Of the highest quality.. Impressive stock from a mail order catolog. X-treme!! Nice!!

Review Summary: If you want a guitar with a special sound, look, feel and simply a dynamic instrument. BUY A GIBSON FIREBIRD V You wno't be dissapointed!! I wasn't!!

Purchase: This was going to be a replacement for the 1963 Gibson Firebird I that was stolen, but after getting and playing it, it's not quite the same. I paid $1050.00 new for it.
Pros: I really like the tones from both pick-ups, the neck and action are smooth as butter giving a great sustain due to the neck-thru construction. You also have the ability to get up to the highest frets without any problem because of the body shape.
Cons: Well, the body's shape is great for some things, but it is not the best guitar for playing while sitting. Though there's no problem after you get use to the odd shape, it does take awhile to get use to. Also, this makes the guitar a little bit neck-heavy, but not enough to be a bother after you get use to it.
Quality: The way this guitar is made is beyond imagination! It's by far the most beautiful guitar I've ever owned, (I currently have 13, and have had more). It starts out with 5 thin strips of different colored woods going down the middle of the guitar from the tip of the headstock to the bottom of the body. After that comes the 'wings' of the guitar. This is a very beautifully made guitar! The woods used are so beyond description, that you just have to see this guitar close-up to really know what I mean! The hardware is first-class, with a stopbar tailpiece, two mini-humbuckers, and a 3-way pick-up switch. Big banjo-type tuning pegs round out the package.

Review Summary: Although is doesn't quite have the mellow tones that my origanal '63 Firebird had, this guitar has increadible tone, and sustain that goes on forever! Primarly, I'm a Strat man, but something about this guitar makes you want to play all night! If you've never played one of these, you owe it to yourself to check one out at your local shop, you'll be amazed!
